I'm sorry I haven't shared anything for a while. It has been a busy and crazy time.

In February 2017, I had the chance to visit Vang Vieng, Laos. Long gone are the days of the crazy river parties, but the area is absolutely beautiful. I was travelling alone, and a nice guy tapped me on the shoulder when we got off the bus from Luang Prabang and asked if I knew a hostel, so I told him to follow me because I'd already booked one. He and I quickly became travel buddies, and saw many of these sights together. The most amusing moment was when I saw the blue slide in pristine river water in the photos, and paid a dollar to go down at my own risk. It looks like a nice little kid's slide, but nope, I was tossed around and nearly turned upside-down before I hit the water, much to my own amusement. 🤣 I surfaced and everyone around us was laughing as well, and I quickly realized why there was not a line for the crazy slide.

Vang Vieng was lovely, and I'd like to see it again one day. Enjoy the photos!

The first time I went to Shanghai, one of my closest friends and I visited the ancient water township of Qibao in the southern part of the city. It was a rainy Monday, which was great because the crowds were small. :) When China reopens, definitely visit if you're ever in Shanghai. It is strikingly different from most of the city.

La Sagrada Família de Gaudí. Need I say more?

If so, construction began in Barcelona in 1882, was taken over by Gaudí a year later, and he oversaw his dream coming to life until his death in 1926. The project was derailed by the Civil War, and began again in the 50s. It has been paused or derailed several times since. The latest projection completion date is 2026, but it seems to change every year.

As someone who is part Spanish, I have always been fascinated by Spanish art and architecture. It was mesmerizing to see this building in person when I finally had a chance to visit Barcelona. It is magnificent.

During a visit home four years ago, my sister, my nephews, and I went to Knoxville, TN, for a night to hang out because I had unknowingly built up enough points to buy us a night in a fancy hotel after a fun trip to Pigeon Forge. Knoxville often gets overlooked unless you're a UT student (go Vols!) or happen live in the area because it is sandwiched between two tourist giants, Nashville and Asheville (my hometown), but it is beautiful, calm, and so nice, especially in the summer when the main UT campus is quiet. The architecture is lovely, and it is going through a revival of sorts, as more and more unique restaurants and bars continue to appear. They also hosted the World's Fair in 1982, which my dad attended with my uncle and my grandparents, so I finally got to go up the Sunsphere, a special tower built for the occasion. We hung out at a nice little outdoor water funzone and enjoyed some really fancy burgers with the kiddos. I look forward to going back with them one day.

When my brother, sister, and I were little, my parents used to take us to a place called the Bottomless Pools in Lake Lure, North Carolina. There are three natural pools at the bases of small waterfalls in a river outside of Asheville, and they got the name when they were discovered over 100 years ago because no one could figure out how deep they were (over 300 feet!). Sometime in the last 15 years, the man who owned the property and tended the admissions booth and trail died, so the park has been closed. My mom and I ignored a few "NO TRESPASSING!" signs and did a little exploring. It was a good idea.

Nice is nice. 🥰 My friend, Franzi, and I arrived two weeks to the day after the horrible Bastille Day terrorist attack in 2016, which killed 86 innocent people. We stayed in a very residential area, which was still quite somber because of what happened (for obvious reasons). However, the tourist area was full of people again and aside from the small memorials and military units marching around, who happened to be quite jolly with drunk tourists (I watched an idiot fellow American approach one and start trying to touch his gun...he handled the whole situation beautifully), life was relative back to normal. We did think twice about spending too much time on the touristy beaches, though, because repeat attackers are not uncommon. Ultimately, it was a beautiful week, and made me love France.

I'll post more photos from Germany (a lot more...) eventually, but this one goes out to the lovers of street art and graffiti. Most of these were taken one morning when my friend and host, Sora, and I emerged from an epic drag party in Alexanderplatz, Berlin, and decided it was a good idea to walk back to the apartment where we were staying rather than trek to the nearest metro stop. This was a two-hour walk, but it was a lovely morning, so why not? This turned out to be a GREAT idea because we had a chance to see some really interesting art along the way, and I had my camera with me. A couple of them were taken on the way to said party, and one or two on different days, but most were snapped during our morning walk home. Enjoy!

Back in 2013, my best friend and her husband flew to Korea to visit me for the second time. Originally, we were also supposed to go to the Philippines, but there was an earthquake a day or two before our flight, so we cancelled and went to a little city called Chuncheon instead. Famous for its spicy chicken dish, dalkgalbi, Chuncheon is a nice getaway not too far from Seoul. We wanderered around a random art park, walked around much of the city, tried the dalkgalbi, and took a ferry across a lake to visit a temple on the side of a small mountain. It was a great place to visit. Here are a few of the highlights. I ❤ Korea.

I visited Budapest for the first time when I was in university. I had the chance to go back in the winter of 2016, when I took these photos. I think many tourists avoid Eastern Europe in the winter because of the weather, but I loved the crisp, cold air, the warm mulled wine in the inviting markets, and wandering around without massive crowds. It is one of my favorite cities because of the food (I'd be three times my current size if I lived there), the unbelievable architecture, the people, and, of course, the history. Go and see it if you get a chance. 🥰

Today's first post will not be about travel, but about nature. Watch the beginning for a photo, then video footage after that.

Simon popped out to the shop and came back a minute later...and in that time, a huge swarm of bees had perched on the tree by our front gate, looking to possibly make a nest. It was astounding how quickly they'd moved. We soon figured out that they came from a nest in the roof of bungalow three. Weaver ants (watch to the end) were swarming and carrying bee corpses away as the rest of the hive fled the scene.

Through this, we discovered that weaver ants are an enemy of honey bees, which explains the last two video clips and why the relocated in a matter of minutes. Shortly after I took the photo and first video, they left the tree for a safer area, as that tree is also full of ants at the moment.

So much nature in our little garden... ❤
