As mentioned before, this year has been my tenth in the fantastic region of Most Na Soci in Slovenia. The place of my very first fly fishing trip where, throughout the years I’ve developed a deep connection with its nature, fishery and wilderness.

Along this fishing journey, I’ve also had the pleasure to meet many anglers from all around the world and some local figures just like the Gasparin family, pioneers of fly fishing in the area who have built a place at the Vila Noblesa Lodge that is a landmark for any anglers coming around, that I can now call very close friends.

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately on another point of view), the future projects in the next couple of years make our return in Slovenia pretty unpredictable, but one thing is sure, we will come back.   And for all of this, all I’ve got to say is thank you Slovenia!

Evening marble hits different.
~
The true jewel of our little stay in Slovenia this summer. A beautiful 50cm+ marble trout caught on dry fly in the very upper part of the Soca river!

This fish rose several times while we were aiming for smaller fish further downstream, betraying its position, right in front of a big rock.
One drift with the so called black mamba fly from Branko Gasparin (an absolute must have on the upper Soca) and the fish was already fighting like helle between the rocks!

What a super cool catch for a short evening strike.

Getting on the touristic trail brought us to places we’ve never been before, some of them even along the river paths.

The Tolminka gorges are a protected area free from any type of fishing where we had the pleasure to meet one of the most beautiful and pristine marble we’ve ever witnessed.

A fish whose beauty is only matched by his incredible size (of about 70cm!) that putted up a good show by gasping some air on the surface under this stormy weather.

Fortunately, the river just a little downstream also holds its fair share of fish!

During our time in Slovenia this summer, we still dedicated a few days to fish, mainly on the upper part of the Soča river, due to the very low water levels

And as usual, it’s Em that took away the size game with a couple of very good fish including this absolute unit of a rainbow trout!

What a thrill to catch these kind of fish on sight dry fly!

S/o to our friend Julien Muller who’s guiding for the Vila Noblesa Lodge and gave us a couple of info to be sure to maximize our short time by the water

Back in Slovenia.
~
This year, it has been the occasion for us to be back in Slovenia for the tenth year since 2016.
Even after all these years, the Soča valley still holds a very special place in my mind since it has been the country of my very first fishing trip.

This year, we took the opportunity to bring my dad with us and discover the country on a totally different perspective, less about fishing and more about the culture and tourism aspect we usually kind of overlook, and let’s just say, it has been even better than what we expcted.

What a fantastic country, what a great people and what a blessing we are to have been experiencing this kind of travel for so long, and hopefully for many years to come!

And of course, y’all didn’t really think we wouldn’t bring our fishing gear with us?

Throwback to a couple of really cool sessions chasing native brown trout in Belgium and Vosges area back in last June.

Despite all of our recent adventures, chasing wild brown trout on dry fly in small streams is still one of our favorite thing to do.

I especially remember this one time being a dry fly vs Euronymphing session where, for once, dry fly was way more effective that the rest. Huge s/o to Marty MaqFly for the ride!
