🪨Brucke family🪨
by Variable font/ 14 styles

Brucke is a contemporary serif family inspired by the branching forms of trees and the geometry of natural stone. Balancing organic curves with angular details, it brings a sculptural character to headlines and a distinctive texture to text. Its design explores the interplay between fluid contours and crisp internal angles. Tapered terminals and sharply defined serifs echo the junctions of branches, giving the letterforms their nature-inspired character. Bold and sculptural at larger sizes, Brucke reveals the full strength of its construction, taking on the solidity of carved stone. In lighter weights, it becomes softer and more delicate, bringing a quiet elegance to smaller sizes.

The family comes in 7 weights, from ExtraLight to ExtraBold, with matching italics and variable font options. It supports an extensive range of Latin-based languages, including Vietnamese, and includes tree, bear and rock icons that extend its connection to nature. From books and magazines to fragrance labels and visual identities, Brucke lends itself to branding, editorial design and packaging.

Meet the 5 laureates of the 2026 Ignition Award 🔥

Back in April we launched the Ignition Award, our first initiative to support the next generation of type designers. Applications closed on 31 July, and what landed in our inbox went well beyond what we expected: nearly 100 applicants, students and early-career designers from all over the world, working in scripts the industry still doesn’t serve enough.

Five have been selected.

Each receives a €1,000 grant, six months of mentorship, and a distribution contract with Blaze Type. Here they are, and we couldn’t be more proud.

— Marika
A multiscript serif with Book and Display cuts, Bold and Italic. It sits somewhere between chancery handwriting and lapidary stone engraving: cursive and gestural, with sharp dry terminals.
— Escada

A display family in Light, Regular and Bold, plus a variable version. Drawn from 20th-century advertising lettering, it sets dynamic brush-pen forms against stencil-like elements.

— Laisen Casual
The handwriting style of Laisen, a Thai and Latin family inspired by Bangkok’s vernacular signage. It comes straight out of marker signwriting: fast, expressive, and visibly shaped by the hand.
jaishankar — Tac
An informal editorial family of 13 styles, made with a folded pen that gives quick, energetic shapes. It looks back to Tamil book covers and magazines of the 1960s–80s and their paste-up composition.

— Novo Relic
A bilingual display typeface reviving Ktav Beinoni, a largely forgotten medieval non-cursive Hebrew script, paired with 12th-century Latin Proto-Gothic. A contemporary reading rather than a strict revival.

A huge thank you to our jury — , .hugues, , .otf, and Matthieu Salvaggio — for their time and care in reviewing every application.

We’ve worked for world-scale companies and for your local music store. Same process, same care. No project is too big or too small.

Blaze Type is an independent type foundry with a team of 50+ designers, linguistic experts and engineers around the world.

Here’s what we do:
→ Custom Font Design. A typeface that’s yours and nobody else’s. Standing out starts with the letters.

→ Wordmark & Lettering. From a one-off logotype to a full proprietary type system. Concept, design, production, delivery. If it involves letters, we can build it.

→ Consulting. Typography decisions are permanent. We audit type stacks, select the right families and build systems that hold together across every touchpoint. We don’t push fonts we sell, we tell you what actually works.

→ Font Production & Mastering. Got a typeface that’s 80% done? We take it the rest of the way: glyph expansion, language coverage, spacing & kerning, variable axes, rendering fixes, any delivery format. Whether we designed it or not.

Machine GK is our newest release from our dear friend Jeremy Bégel

Available in 10 styles and variable with 4 distinctive stylistic sets

This project is one of the closest to my heart because we started working on this project back when I was Jeremy’s intern, nearly 15 years ago!

Being able to finish this Din inspired heavy on the ligatures font with our dear friend is such an awesome feeling!

Machine GK is a typeface built around a rational structure inspired by 20th-century technical and industrial alphabets. Its design is based on a deliberate economy of means: simple shapes, low contrast, and a homogeneous rhythm in the direct lineage of typefaces like DIN-Mittelschrift.

This apparent neutrality serves as the foundation for an extensive ligature system developed as a fully fledged typesetting tool. Divided into several stylistic sets, these ligatures introduce varying degrees of transformation to the text. Some subtly affect its texture, while others produce more visible fusions capable of altering the silhouette of words.

Designed as much for text setting as for display use, these ligatures offer an alternative to traditional hierarchy mechanisms such as italics, weight variations, or letter-spacing adjustments. Their repetition generates a specific typographic gray and imparts a distinct identity to the text while maintaining the coherence of the original system. In their most pronounced variations, they locally transform the letters they connect and alter the silhouette of words, opening up expressive possibilities particularly suited for large-format layouts and display typography.

Machine GK subverts the logic of standardization from which it stems to offer new forms of typographic differentiation and to expand the possibilities of expression within typesetting itself.
