Sailing in summer light
From the top of the Dune du Pilat, the view just takes your breath away. The Atlantic stretching out endlessly, a long golden sandbank below, and these tiny sailboats moving slowly through the light. So small against all that space and sky.
I stood up there for a long time, watching, waiting. The long exposure smoothed the water into something silky and soft. Everything felt slow and warm and full of summer.

Carrelet
The afternoon was soft and still, but a gentle breeze was moving through. You could feel it more than hear it. Just enough wind to set the clouds drifting slowly across the sky, blurring into long silky streaks during the long exposure. The sea pale and quiet below, the little fishing hut standing steady in all that softness.
These are the conditions I love.

The beauty of transience in Zeeland
These two bare trees, half buried in the sand of the dunes, are all that remains of what once stood here. And yet there is something quietly beautiful about them. Still holding on. Still reaching upward, against that wide blue sky.
I find these traces of time deeply moving. The sand shifts, the years pass, and nature just keeps going. Patient and unhurried, exactly like the landscape around it.

Lake of tranquility
The Grevelingenmeer at sunset. The water so still it had become a mirror, the horizon barely visible between water and sky. Just these two yellow buoys, quietly floating in all that softness. A splash of colour in a world of blue and grey.
I remember standing there, not wanting to move. Not wanting to break the spell. Everything around me was so incredibly quiet that I could almost hear the stillness itself.

Measuring station in the sea near Cadzand
One small structure, standing alone in all that water and sky. The light was soft that evening, warm and golden at the horizon, fading gently into blue above. The sea perfectly still.

Sometimes the most ordinary things become extraordinary when the light is right and you take the time to really see them.

Mussel bed on the Opal Coast in France
The tide had pulled back just enough to reveal this. Row after row of mussel beds stretching out into the silky water, with the wooden poles of the mussel farmers quietly lining the horizon. A landscape that is both worked and wild at the same time.

I stood there taking it all in, struck by the lines. The soft light, the stillness of the water, the subtle textures of the sea floor. One of those scenes that asks you to slow down and really look.

Bay of Rothéneuf on a cloudy day
Grey skies, still water, the soft outline of trees along the shore. This bay near Saint-Malo held a quietness that morning that I did not want to disturb. I set up my camera, took my time, and let the long exposure do what it does best. Smoothing everything out. Letting the stillness speak.

Not every beautiful day needs sunshine.

A memory of high tide
Low tide had pulled the sea far back, leaving behind this quiet pool of water in the sand. A mirror of sky and light, framed by soft ripples. Still and simple and so incredibly peaceful.

I love these moments on the beach when the tide has just turned and the sand holds its breath. Everything feels wide open. There is so much space, so much light. Just you and the horizon and this gentle reminder of where the water has been.

As a matter of fact
Four poles, standing quietly in the water. Rust and moss and the slow movement of the sea around them. There is something timeless about this image. These poles have been here for years, weathered and worn, and yet they stand. Patient. Present.
I made this on a calm morning, the light soft and the sea like glass. One of those rare days where everything just falls into place.

A salty sigh on the beach in Zeeland
That moment when you step onto the beach and take a deep breath. Salt in the air, wind on your face, sand beneath your feet. Everything that was heavy suddenly feels a little lighter.

This image was made on a quiet morning in Zeeland. Just me, the beach and that vast open sky. One of those moments where time seems to pause and all you can do is breathe it in.
