Billies K**b #23/138⛰️

Oscar and I were so stoked to spend some time exploring around Mt Owen in Kahurangi National Park. If you know the area, you’ll know it’s famous for its incredible limestone landscapes, and Billies K**b absolutely delivered.
Starting from Courthouse Flat, we headed straight up the ridge and immediately started earning this one. It’s bloody steep… but it gets you up there fast!

In the saddle just before the staircase, we headed off track towards the summit. Super cool terrain, stunning views, and we genuinely picked the perfect day for it.

There were a good few spaniards along the way… which, if you know, you know. My gaiters really came in clutch there 😅

When we’re heading off track, we make sure to study the map and make a clear intentions before we set off. We’ve been using the Plan My Walk app from the New Zealand Mountain Safety Council to create custom tracks, log our trip intentions, and share plans with emergency contacts before we head out. Such a great feature, we love it so much!

By far the most scenic spot I’ve ever eaten a bagel 👌🏻

And is it just me, or does food taste unequivocally better when you’re outside? On a mountain, in the fresh air, with a view like this? Somehow everything hits different.

Marmot New Zealand for getting us out there as always. And how good are these new colourways?! Absolutely obsessed with the new PreCip Evo series 🙌🏻

Turns out I didn’t hate mountain biking… I’d just only ever ridden terrible bikes 😅

Getting into a new hobby as an adult is surprisingly intimidating, but I’m absolutely loving the challenge. Every ride gets a little more fun, a little less terrifying, and I’m finally starting to understand the obsession.

Fully embracing my late-20s mountain bike era 🚵‍♂️

And nothing beats finishing a big day on the trails, getting back to the car, and throwing all the muddy gear into the camp bucket 👌🏻

Canavan’s K**b #22/138🌿

A short but beautiful walk through some of the West Coast’s incredible bush, with great views back over Franz Josef at the top. It was awesome to learn a bit of the history behind this spot too. Named after Richard Canavan and standing proud despite the movement of the Waiho Glacier that took out most of its surroundings thousands of year ago.

Not every k**b is a big adventure. Sometimes it’s just a quick escape into the most gorgeous bush and a chance to tick off another epic k**b!

Rocky k**b #20/138 ⛰️

Rocky K**b took us to the other side of the Tararuas, exploring the south east corner this time. We spent the night at Waohine Campsite, then got up early, crossed a massive suspension bridge, and headed up the track through some seriously beautiful bush.

The Mt Reeves track wasn’t sign posted so we weren’t originally sure if there was even going to be much of a track, but it turned out to be awesome and pretty untouched, with heaps of kidney fern everywhere.

Six or seven hundred metres of climbing later, we made it to the top of Rocky K**b, ticking off k**b number 20. Feels good to be well into double digits now 😄

That’s all from the Tararuas for now, but there are still plenty of k***s left to summit, so we’ll definitely be back!

Reminiscing about our trip across the Alps last year 🇫🇷🇦🇹🇨🇭🇮🇹

It was one of those trips I’d dreamed about for a long time, and now I can’t quite believe it was almost a year ago. The mountains in Europe couldn’t have felt more different from the ones we have here in New Zealand, both stunning in their own way, but there was something so grand and ancient about the Alps.

In New Zealand, I often feel like a wee explorer, heading into places that feel like you have them all to yourself. In Europe, the mountains felt like they carried history, like I was one of thousands who had wandered through these places before us. It felt powerful in a completely different way.

New Zealand’s history feels so young when compared to everything these Alps have witnessed, and we felt incredibly lucky to experience even a small part of that history on our trip.

Baxter K**b #19/138 🌿

Normally these missions have us deep in the backcountry, hiking through big mountains, but after six days in the Tararuas we found ourselves back in Wellington chasing one of the city k***s instead. We typed “Baxter’s K**b” straight into Google Maps, drove to the car park, followed the sign pointing the way, and before long we were standing at the trig beside a cell tower overlooking Porirua.

A pretty random summit, but a cool reminder that this mission is about exploring all corners of New Zealand, the wild places and everything in between. If there’s a k**b, we’re gonna summit it. Even if it’s sitting above the capital city!
