I think we should all stop walking the famous tracks for a minute and go somewhere we haven’t already seen 400 times on Instagram…

Turns out not knowing what a place looks like before you go there is actually pretty fun… The girls and I went to Mt Sunday Bivvy over the weekend to bag Olivia Partridge | Hut Bagger 🏔️ 169th hut. What a heckling legend!

I had never heard of it before and knew basically nothing except for what the topo map could tell us, and we were so blown away by the whole thing. Such a good little loop over Mt Sunday and Mt Riley, incredible bush and these epic big rocks we have to scrabble up and around, and then the cutest wee 2 bunk biv. What a stunner, can highly recommend.

Although, slightly ironic that I’m now posting photos of it on Instagram and telling you how good it is… so I’m clearly part of the problem 😂🙈

What a way to kick off our winter roadie! Such an awesome and easily accessible K**b in Christchurch. I’m sure the views on a clear day are stunning, but it was pretty special being above the clouds 😍

A little jealous of those that get to call this their local k**b… what a stunner!

Winter Road trip gave us a little bit of everything!
A few more k**bs under the belt, and a whole lot of good times with friends ☺️

We got some golden sunsets, one very long wet and cold day, a very white drive through Arthur’s pass and some sore legs after a big climb on the bikes.

Cups are full, and so stoked with these awesome adventures we get to share with the best people 🫶🏻

If you know my friend Liv, you’ll know she’s completely obsessed with backcountry huts.

So obsessed, in fact, that she somehow convinced Ash and I to turn what was meant to be a chill 20 km day on the Heaphy Track into a 42 km suffer-fest, all so she could visit the legendary Ministry of Works Hut (the M.O.W).

Let’s just say it was peak Type 2 fun… boggy swamps, sore feet, and rapidly declining morale. But seeing Liv tick off one of New Zealand’s classic backcountry huts made it all worthwhile.

So when Kemi & Niko asked if I’d create a video featuring their Mini M.O.W Hut, I knew exactly who it belonged to.

Now Liv has her very own mini M.O.W Hut hanging on her wall, a little reminder of one of our biggest adventures together.

Because that’s the thing about tramping, isn’t it? No matter how much of an absolute mission it was, all that’s left are the stories, the friendships, and the adventures that become some of our favourite memories.

I reckon that’s what makes these Mini Huts so special. They’re not just tiny replicas of huts, they’re reminders of the adventures you’ve had and the people you shared them with❤️

After its premiere and ‘Best Film’ win at the MD Outdoors adventure film festival on the weekend, I am so excited to share the story of our first 22 k**bs.

At the end of the day, it’s not really about the k**bs, it’s about discovering more of New Zealand’s incredible backcountry and the adventures that come from saying yes to a slightly crazy idea.
