Great to have gav and vinny back on the lake and they brought Kirkby along for his 1st visit. After all catching the 1st night it went quite for gav and vin in 2&3 but Kirkby was picking a few fish up in peg 1. A big swing in The weather again wasn't helping after 15 degree drop . The lads swapped around and viinny bagged a brace of 30s in peg 4 before landing a tiny linear of about 6lb that hes named the vinear lol. He then managed a spawned out 39lb6oz lovely mirror for his new pb .
Gav moved into peg 1 and picked grass carp up then another 30 before a brace of twentys but lost a couple too unfortunately.
Kirkby moved into peg 2 as the wind picked up pushing the fish down to the bottom bank it was a clever move going in 2 and fishing peg 3 water at the same time , with the monk producing consistently as he marched onto to double figures but unfortunately the big girls were not coming out this week but he had lots of 30s including a 38lb leather carp. Unfortunately he lost a few including a couple of grass carp .
We had a great night Wednesday when silve and gert joined for a bq and Irish coffee to finish and cards but it went cold so we all moved into the house. After switching on Wednesday with 12 fish out the cool wind killed it Thursday but the lads managed a couple friday. Well done to Ian on his first trip with 13 fish a few double figures cats out this week aswell.
Big thanks to the boys for leaving the cabin spotless and the baitboats cleaned.
We continue the pattern of a week on week off with Ashley out for there first trip to foxpool next Saturday. Temperatures are set to rise next week and were back in the 30 plus degrees.

The lads all caught first night gav got the ball rolling with a 33lb fish, then it went quite apart from Ian in peg 1 who was picking the odd fish up. Then yesterday they got on the munch with a dozen fish banked between the 3 of them and a couple lost .
They all had a swap around after starting in pegs 1,2 & 3 vinnie finally
headed my advice and went from peg 2 to 4 and banked a brace of 30s . Gav moved from 3 to 1 and had a brace one grass carp and a 30 lb plus mirror.
Ian's never had had a grass carp and was using his own bait the first few days
Then had 5k of scopex squid off me and I think hes had 8 or 9 fish since unfortunatelyhe lost 2 grass carp one put a hole in the landing net and snapped him the other he lost at the net not long after and he reckons gav landed the same grassy. To be fair hes fishing peg 3 water from peg 2 something vinnie couldn't do as his dad was in peg 3 . I told vinnie to go in peg 4 as its been.most consistent but he wanted to socialise with the others so started in peg 2 which cost him fish.
There's already been a couple out this morning with vinnie having a small linear that's came through in here and ian"s rod was screaming off just as he was having breakfast landing a stockpond mirror at 23.8lb with 3 distinctive scales in the middle so I named triple scale. Gav also lost one. Tiny Tina that Amy named a few years ago has been out infact it was Ians first fish at 15.8lb not been out for a while but double in weight since Amy's boyfreind steve had it. Lovely scaley shoulders .
Ian must be on double figures now he had a lovely 38lb leather carp yesterday but no forties yet.
Gert and silve came over for the barbecue last night and it was a late one so Ian decided not to fish and have good night's sleep and rest the swim then within a hour of putting them out he had one.
There a strong wind hacking into peg 4 and it's definitely moved the fish down that end I think it will be strong finish to the week after a slow start hopefully the bigger fish turn up for gav and vin who want a first forty plus after having high 30s on previous trips with blackdpot and the shamrock ☘️ banked after spawning previously.
The weather is all over the place we gone from low teens to a week of 34°+ to light rain overcast skies and a strong wind .
Before I picked the lads up Saturday the fish were showing everywhere after a hot week one after the other was boshing and a few started spawning again to my disappointment on the far margin as I walked around a poor little common was being gang r***d in the margin with a huge mirror with them. I picked them up and told them I thought they were up for a munch.
Unfortunately im having a nightmare with the microcats . I had 3 boats converted over the winter to digital self priming and unfortunately all 3 went wrong the first time I hired them out. As all them had been fitted with a bad batch of servos that release the hopper one of the boats started working again but Gary and Tony took 2 back to the uk and angling technics arranged collection and said theyd give me priority and get them back ASAP. I got one boat back on Tuesday and gave it to vinnie in peg 4 as hes was fishing under the overhanging tree and he put his rods out fine then in the morning the boat wouldn't connect to the handset to say I was pi**ed was a understatement I recorded a video and sent it to angling technics and the technician got back to me saying it had been rigorously tested and had the handset been left out in the rain. We only had light rain and I always tell the lads the handsets must be kept in the bivvys or cabin if its raining. I had a message off David the managing director saying he'd spoke to the technician and he thought water ingress in the handset was the issue as soon as I got back from the shops I saw the message and recorded a video of me opening up the handset which was as dry as a bone and sent it off to prove that wasn't the issue the lads are regulars and have used the boats on previous trips so know the crack regarding keeping them dry.
I have bought a couple of temporary cheap boats to tide me over which the guys said are great .The other boat arrived yesterday I swapped the batteries off the non working boat and gave it gav to try . Unfortunately the boat that Tony and Gary didn't take back as it started working and I used it for 24 hours without a problem played up when I lent to the Irish lads on last. Not ideal but I do have two working microcsts at present and 2 smaller boats as back up.
I won't be sending them back as it cost angling technics £76.50 Import tax to send my own boats back plus courier charges which i find ridiculous. I had a message off DHL last night my right marole order is being held at customs now until I can supply a import code that I have to get off the french government
Which just put costs up on everything. Bloody brexit.

Finally the lake got back to normalty last week and it could of been even better. But for some better angling and a few fish starting to spawn again from Thusday.
Father & son Anthony both got into double figures poor sean didnt i did wonder if he had any bait on times.
But he did manage a forty all be it on old tonys rods in peg 2 .
The lads had between 50 and 60 takes in the week but only around 2/3 landed which is poor it would of been interesting to see how gary and tony would of got on this week.as they were experianced french carp lads who sat on there rods but unfortunatly they copped for spawning week 3 weeks ago .thats fishing. I do think the house bait makes a difference and the spiralinna went well.
Anthony did best with 3 over 40lb and some nice high thirtys to 37lb but he was never going to match the 62lb cimmon he had last time. His dad didnt have any forties apart from the one sean landed so he can claim half that but 5 over 30lb biggest 39lb rest were 30s ans 1 catfish that was removed.
Sean 5 fish 3 20s the forty and 33lb fish yesyerday. .
Its the losses that are concerning me the biggest cause generally is lads not being on there rods. i try to be flexible letting lads sit at the cabin with there reveivers to socialise but if this year is as bad last year for fish losses. i'm will have to rethink on that as its costing me fish .
I rarley lose fish myself and my biggest tips are .
1 use a minimum of 3oz leads that the first point of contact to set the hook.
2 dont strike the fish is hooked your not fishing at 120 yards on here. I watch some clowns strike like there hooking a 750lb sail fish.
3 don't bully the fish. Enjoy the fight whats the point of trying rush it in I very rarely land a fish within 10 minutes of hooking it usually more like 20 minutes keep your clutch slack let the fish go when it wants to run. playing a fish too hard only causes more mouth damage . And if you only just nicked the fish and you strike your moving the ripping it mouth guving a better chance to eject the hook. Don't try netting it til it hits the top mouth gasping for air . That way they dont beat you up on the bank.
4 .keep your hook sharp. ngt do a cheap little hook sharpening kit buy one it will save you money and catch you more fish i have a jag sharpner which are now riduculously expensive.
5. Make sure your using a minimum of 25lb hooklink.
6. Probably the most important be on you rods the longer you take to getvthe rods the more chance you have of losimg the fish.
7 . Keep the line tight and in contact with the fish at all times.
I have nearly 50 years carp experiance on tough uk and french waters i'm here to help and educate dont be to proud to ask thats what im here for . The favorite part of my job is seeing guys smash there pbs. And seeing there face light up.
You can see from the pictures there not used to holding big carp especially sean .
I asked Anthoy if i could see the 44lb mirror he had on his camara shortly after arriving last week. Sean only took the shots when the fish was lay flat anthonys face waa a picture when he realised. Lucklily sean waz still in the bog as the air turned blew i hope he sends me the picture. 😁😁. Great to see the irish boys again after so long thanks tobsean for leaving the xabin clean and mopped out . Bon voyage back to the.emerald isle boys. Thanks Graham foxpool.
I have not got all the boys pictures bit they did promise to send them on.🤣

Anthony on a roll but it could be so much better hes had a hatrick of forties now and is into double figures but has lost over 10 fish and 3 on the bounce last night.
I think sean shot himself in the foot when they swapped by going into peg 2 instead of one where older Anthony had 3 fish and lost a couple. But he took 3 from peg 3 before they swapped.
After his move from 1 to 4 for he continued where his son Anthony left off bagging a few fish a day mainly high 20s but im sure the bigger fish will come now they've all switched again. Over 20 fish out now 3 over 40lb to Anthony from pegs 3 and 4 and hes lucky its not 4 forties as the half linear he had is usually over 40lb but there all empty after spawning.
The lads by there own admission are not the most experienced fishing for big carp as the carp fishing in Ireland is limited to park lakes they said .
Remember there a hard fighimg strain in here and its a clay bottom so therecsoft mouthed dont try rushing them in enjoy the fight and where them out in the water dont try bullying them in or it will result in line breaking and hookpulls.
Anthony seems to have the knack though as last time he was here he had a 62lb common. Its great to have the lads back on the lake again they were last here in 2023 and it was good to see them again.
He's Also a happy gunner after we watch arsenal win the other night. Then went on to win the league after city blew it. Probably much deserved ah bob after they been top most the season. But I big congratulations to city for retaining the runners up spot again. 🤣.
Its not been easy weather wise with a mixed bag of heavy rain and overcast skies and occasional sun but things are hitting up to mid 30s all week which is a bid change from the 11 degrees we had this week which is very unusual for this time of year.
Just like to finish by passing on my condolences to big Scott one of the biggest characters I had on the lake. on the. Passing of his dad who was a fellow angler who loved his fishing . Tight lines mate.

The boys all banked fish the first day with Anthony straight out of the blocks with a 44lb mirror within 15 minutes of casting out in peg 4 then followed that up with a 41lb mirror last night and a mid twenty in between. His dad banked a 27lb fish from peg 1 first night and Sean in peg 3 got off the mark yesterday. with a mid 20.
We had heavy rain yesterday for half a hour and it give more rain out in between sunshine the next few days before we hit 30 ° from Thursday so a bit of a mixed bag weather wise which isn't ideal.
I had 3 cancellations come in due to unforeseen medical circumstances in july and August. So if your looking for a trip out in the sunshine let me know the following dates are still available.
JUNE 27TH
JULY 11TH
AUGUST 15TH & 22ND
SEPTEMBER 12TH
OCTOBER 3RD (2 PLACES)
OCTOBER 17TH & 24TH
Unfortunately I dont have a picture of the 44lb mirror as its on his camera but I will try to get it off him on my lap top.
Not the best pictures tbh try to hold the gish s tad higher boys and square so the top of the fish is adjacent to the bottom.
I had a few more commons from stockpond im feeding them every day now In The big lake . I seem to have got through the catfish now but a lot more commons than mirrors i had a 16lb out and over 20 commons have gone in and only 6 mirrors. I will move some 20 of the commons into foxpool when they get over the 20lb mark next year. As its a 4 to 1 ratio in mirrors to commons I reckon in foxpool . Some cracking commons gone in though. I will keep two rods in there until I drain the stockond down .

The weather has been unusually cool the last week and we had a heavy storm with hailstones Wednesday. Itscthat time of year when the birds have there yound and nature's alive with activity.
I spotted a tiny wagtail nest in the caravan after I moved and the moor hen is proudly showing off her brood of 5 fur balls red beeked babies . Theres a duck nesting on the corner of the island so ducklings should arrive soon. I do feel blessed when I open the curtains this time of year ,well except for the noisy frogs but they have curtailed the last week now mating has stopped. I had a genet in the coypu traps on Tuesday which I released. A stunning creature originated from north Africa but regular visitors to the lake.
Its been a quite start with only 3 groups on and spawning has slowed the fishing but I think the Irish lads arriving today are in for a good week I had 5 takes on Wednesday resulting in 3 carp with x30 plus and a 27lb mirror in about 6 hours fishing and every fish was completely empty. So they'll be up for bait this week definitely I reckon with the weather theyll bag up .
Ive removed most the snags in yhe corner now and just need to bring some clay around with the dumper and let the ground firm up to get the remaining roots out im going to drop the water the end of the season to make sure everything is removed. I ummed and arred about taking them out as it was the only snags and cover in the lake really and they loved it in there always crashing off the bushes or underneath. But there been a few fish snagged up there and without doubt wevlostvtethered fish in there as I saw a few rigs in the branches.
Im looking forward to seeing the lads onagaun I think its 4 orv5 years since there last visit and its always nice to see lads return for what will hop6be cracking week.

Been a bit colder this week very unseasonal weather with heavy storms and string winds and a hailstone shower.
I love may as nature's marching in to summer and coming alive new life is being born with a array of birdlife on the lakes.
The moor hen is proudly showing her 5 red beaked fur balls there was a wag tail nest in the caravan just inside the broken window with chick's in and mallard is nesting on the corner of the island.
I had a genet in the coypu traps on Tuesday which Is a grey cat like creature with wide eyes and pointed ears absolutely stunning mostly found in north Africa and nocturnal. It was released unharmed .it really is a blessing to open the curtains to the view of the lake looking its best even the frogs are quiter this week.
Ive managed to remove most the snags from the corner and some big roots but still need to get the digger closer to get tge rest out when it dries out and the water drops.
Had the rods in the stockpond and thankfully no more cats but most the fish coming out are commons had a spawnbound stunner of around 16lb last night after dark and lost another common at the net . Therez nearly 30 fish gone in Chad's pool now and 26 commons . But they look mint and I think theyll.be stunners in a few years . When I get them.over 20lb I intend to put 20.in foxpool probably autumn next year as the mirrors out number the commons about 5 to 2 in foxpool. Had a nice linear that liam put in there I think at 12lb too.
Just sat in lidl after picking the Irish lads up i think there in for a plumb week as there showing a lot and after having 5 takes in 6 hours Wednesday I think there up for a bit of bait.

13/05/2026

A double take tonight 34lb and 27lb mirrors.

13/05/2026

Well the fish are definitely on the feed put the rods back in atm 19.30 and was preparing dinner when I had a screamer in the stockpond resulting in a 11lb common which I put in Chad's pool. On my way back my middle rod was off and it gave me a right scrap but as I was playing the fish my right hand rod I'd put back.on the bar where I had the common off earlier was screaming off. I try but failed to bully the big mirror in to the net as she had plenty of fight in her but after 15 minutes I slipped the net under this 34lb beauty.
I thought the other fish might of taken me around the back of the island, but I got lucky and it was at the other end of island i got this one in a lot quicker and after netting went to sort the 1st fish out that was in the net.
The 1st fish came from mid water infront of peg 3 the winds been hacking into that bank all day and ive seen plenty showing up there so I moved my rods down towards peg 2 a bit then put 2 rods down there. The 2nd fish was 27lb .
I left the 3rd rod in until after ive had dinner, then I won't fish again now I'd rather the lads get them I think theyll vag up as there definitely in the mood for bait.
