Unleashing the reins in Essaouira 📍

Sometimes, I have to pinch myself to believe that such places exist but they do !

I was reunited with Moonlight, my favourite Barbe Arabe. This time we discovered the Moroccan Atlantic coast from Imsouane to Sidi Kaouki.

The days were intertwined with the low tides, where we could gallop from one end of the beach to the other !

What an extraordinary feeling, the sound of the hooves going at full speed, but barely touching as we hit 55kmh...

Coming back to a trot, we venture together into the water to cool off, everyone is smiling from ear to ear like children.

This is Morocco, this is Essaouira, this is horseback riding with

Why visit Erg Chigaga?

📍 Located in the Drâa Region about 50kms west of the village of M'Hamid. The dunes cover almost 40kms, some reaching the height of 300m making them the largest and wildest in Morocco. This is mostly due to the fact that the only way to access them is by surfing the dunes in a 4x4, on foot or on the back of Dromadery!

To get there I would count at least a whole day of travel from Marrakech with a stopover in Ouarzazate. In my opinion you can not venture into this place without a guide. You can to easily get lost 🧭

I recommend spending several days here to really disconnect from the outside world and relax. This place deserves your time.

- Spend the night in a Berber camp, eating couscous atop a magnificent dunes.

- Follow a herd of Dromadery with the local nomads.

- Hike and camp across this stunning landscape to discover the wonders of nature like the Lake Iriki just a stone's throw away from the dunes.

If you are seeking an isolated, primitive, emotional and one of a kind experience this is the place.

This place will get you emotional and you'll definitely want to come back !

I've been back 3 times now... I find myself laying down on the sand, eyes closed just listening to my surroundings. Sounds crazy but it's great for the soul!

Why visit Merzouga?

📍 Located on the outskirts of the village of Merzouga, the dunes are actually part of the Erg Chebbi in the Drâa valley near the Algerian border.

If you want to experience the wilderness of the Sahara find a certified guide, to take you on a walk or dromadery ride through the dunes and away from other tourists. Preferably in the early hours or at sunset. Avoiding the the hottest part of the day.

You will discover a vast landscape, still wild and untouched sands. Just how you may imagine 🤩

Strangely enough, one of its advantages is also it's most significant disadvantage. Accessibility, you can drive right up to the dunes from the road. What does this mean? Well it's extremely touristic, the dunes are covered in tyre tracks from 4x4s... It can get a little noisy, not necessarily the place if you want to disconnect from the modern world.

If you land in Marrakech count a 9 hours drive ! You can rent a car, hop on a bus or travel down with a guide 🇲🇦

Top tip - if you choose to hike, do it without shoes. The sensation was fantastic. I felt so free but it also made climbing much easier. Just keep a pair of sandals with you in case. Try it out 👣

Thank you too
For organising this trip and for bringing together such a wonderful bunch of adventures together!

Want to camp outside?

Here are my tips... and why I love it so much !

Camping outside has become one of my favourite things to do when travelling, why?

I feel amazing quite simply, watching the stars or the moon rise. It's extremely peaceful. I litterally find it impossible to sleep in a tent if the weather is perfect for it !

So here are a few things I do to have the perfect night.

1. Do you your research on your destination. In Morocco, the nights are usually much colder than during the day and having the wrong sleeping bag can ruin your beauty sleep. Its better to have one that will keep you toasty warm than one you'll have to wear extra socks.

2. Choosing your spot. Avoid any slopes if you can. If there is one make sure your feet are facing it. Removing any stones that may dig into you.

3. Know your N.E.S.W directions. I once read that your head should always be in the direction of North. I now swear by it.

4. Have everything you may need during the night next to you. i.e. Water, tissus, phone in case of emergency and keep it in the sleeping back with you, the cold can affect the battery.

5. Have an inflatable pillow or comfy jumper you can use to get comfy.

6. Any extra clothes you think you may need, stock them in the sleeping bag. Always, nicer to put on warm socks than freezing ones !

7. Now relax and watch the sky change in front of your eyes...

Do you find these tips helping?

Back from a month in Morocco !

I'm finding it hard to choose, which pictures best represent what I saw and felt during my time in this magnificent country.

I will start here...
Moonlight, my barbe-arabe stallion and I discovered the Drâa Valley together.

Up until now I had never really done a full gallop. This was it!

The terrain was perfect, flat and vast. We had no limit... I set the counter on my GPS to record our speed, 55km/ph !

I will never forget that sensation, every muscle fell in place. We both went for it, screaming GO GO GO !

I await my next riding adventure with impatience !!!
