The Civilization project continues to take shape.

A foundation is in place, built from several terrains, research, and first series.

The work now focuses on its global structure: on the way different ensembles can speak to one another, across the continuity of gazes, gestures, and territories.

Building this framework has taken time. Finding a form flexible enough to hold different contexts while keeping a clear line is a long and necessary process.

The first chapter of Civilization began with this encounter.

A young woman I met in her village, in the mountains of Guizhou, China.

At that time, I was still trying to understand how to start this project, which direction to take, how to enter this story. Then came this encounter, simple but decisive.

From that moment, the chapter around the Miao community began to take shape.

The Civilization project has slowly changed over time.

At first, I thought I was photographing cultures and territories. But the project is becoming something else: a reflection on the way people continue to inhabit the world through gestures, presence, landscapes, and inherited ways of living.

What interests me now is not the spectacular, but what quietly persists within contemporary life. A posture. A repeated gesture. A way of standing in a landscape. Traces of continuity that remain visible despite transformation.

Some images come from observation alone. Others emerge through conversation, shared time, and direct encounters with the people I photograph.

China is where the project is currently taking shape, but Civilization was never intended to belong to one place only.

Civilization is a long-term photographic project exploring how historically rooted ways of life continue to exist within contemporary environments in transformation.

Not opposition between tradition and modernity, but coexistence. Sometimes visible, sometimes fragile, always in motion.

The work follows the overlap of different temporalities within the same spaces: gestures, bodies, landscapes, infrastructures.

Currently developing in China with Miao communities.

Somewhere in Guizhou, Huangping people.

Embroidering belonging.

Each Miao communities carries its own language of patterns, stitched into fabric. Colors, flowers, symbols, repetitions, nothing is random.

These garments are not ornaments. They speak of belonging, memory, and transmission.

Metal once meant silver. Today, it is often replaced by lighter alloys. The form remains, the meaning shifts.

What endures is the precision. The patience. The time embedded in every detail.
