November 12th, 2025.
3:00am.
Unusual latitude.
Terrible light pollution.
And yet... magic! ✨

The powerful solar flare from Nov 9th pushed through the city glow for yet another great show!
It wasn’t as intense as the one from May 2024, but sightings at this latitude are rare enough that you simply can’t miss them—even if it means wrecking your sleep cycle in the process. 😅 (sleep is overrated anyway, right?)

What a rare sight! Here are the aftermath of a G5 solar storm, reaching earth. Seeing such a strong and colorful aurora right in my backyard is something that I had never imagined 😱
I felt like in Iceland for a short while, because I was the only one outside at 2am, shooting…

It is also the first time I see so many different colors at once.. this is mainly due to the high range of altitude of the event, hitting different layers of gas in our atmosphere.

The lighting conditions were awful, especially due to all this urban light pollution, and I couldn’t find a great composition or foreground. So I sticked to the few spots that I usually shoot when I go out for a short walk… But I love the results, probably because this is a place and a view that I enjoy every single day 😋

It will certainly look good in print!

🌋 🌋 🌋
Unless you've been living under a rock, you've probably noticed that a volcano started to erupt in Iceland... and on Instagram, literally 😆

Not being able to witness this natural wonder first hand is a bit of a bummer, but hey 🤷‍♂️ that's life! And there are more serious things to worry about right now.
But, my friend had this nice idea to share a dozen of his RAW files with the rest of us and to make it a fun photo edit contest!

So here are my first submissions to the editing competition! 🏆

It's the first time for me that I edit someone's else raw photos and I have to say that I enjoyed it! It definitely comes with its challenges though, the biggest one being to be
creative, after having seen the thousands of photos of the volcano that are already outthere 🤔
So I hope you'll like them! I'll probably add some more later.

I also invite everyone to participate in the challenge, it's a good way to try something different, especially when you're in a creative rut (like I am 😅)

Edited by yours, truly.

Wow wow! Time really flies! (Ok, COVID didn't help at all and I guess my perception of time got confused...)⠀
One year ago, I was on that little schooner, sailing through icebergs and out-of-this-world landscapes 🤩 ⠀
I've also had the chance to meet a bunch of awesome people and it made this whole expedition even more unforgettable!⠀

By the way, I flew it through that ice arch, twice! I will post the video someday... if I have the time and the courage to edit it 😝 \⠀
Bringing the drone was probably the best decision, besides the risks of losing it 😰 ⠀

PS: I am not going to talk about the climate change, melting ice, dying glaciers, etc. We all know what's going on and apparently, we have already passed the point of no return regarding the melting of the whole arctic ice cap... ⠀
So sit back and enjoy it while it lasts, and brace for that slow inertial impact 🥵 🌊

"Sit back and relax." ⠀

I am back at posting after a weird month of July. Don't get too excited as my posting schedule has always been pretty hectic! ⠀
In fact, I took some time off and exerced some social media distancing of some sort.⠀

One of the reason is that I don't have a job anymore.. and that I have been thinking about what should come next. Not sure that I have completely figured this one yet, but like we say in Iceland, "þetta reddast!"⠀

In the meantime, I have spent some time going through some of my most cherished photos and I have slightly re-edited some of them. This one is probably my favorite aurora show that happened to me back in April 2016, in Höfn camping. The sky exploded with green lights dancing above our heads, just a few hours after we pitched the tent!⠀

I was so glad to share yet another unique moment with my dear friend from Argentina, .⠀
She was somewhere around me, in the dark, playing the gong. ⠀

I can still hear her, so I will go sit again, and relax.

Summer is running full speed in many places and usually people expect summer photos with vibrant colors and strong summer vibes. Not really my style as you probably have noticed by now 😁 but I am sure you are ok with that. ⠀

This year's been a very unusual ride so far (to say the least), and we're only halfway! Now that the travel bans are slowly lifted, flying to northern countries has returned into the realm of possibilities! I am not sure yet when I will be able to return to Iceland. Maybe this summer? *wink* *wink*⠀

This photo doesn't need much explanation to anyone who has been to Iceland during the winter. The icy road, this softly lit white void and those typical road poles are the minimal, yet perfect visual cues to bring back that "Icelandic craving" of mine 😅⠀

I can't wait for the next winter! 🤪

Hvalfjörður, literally the “whale fjord” 🐳. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen any whales there.⠀

This place is actually one of my favorite fjord around Reykjavík. It's often overlooked because the vast majority of travellers will take the tunnel that goes under the fjord. While that shortcut will cut your travel time by at least an hour, you will miss a beautiful and quiet drive across volcanic mountains...⠀

I highly recommend that you take the extra time to visit that little gem!⠀

If you did, did you also enjoy the ride 🚗 ?⠀

“Tabular, dome shaped, pinnacled, drydock, glacier, weathered, tilted or blocky”. There are a lot of words to describe the various shapes of icebergs, but they only apply to their non-submerged part. We usually don't know or see what lies beneath the surface.⠀

I tend to believe that we are a bit like the icebergs, only unveiling that small side of ourselves, eroded by time and experiences. The pristine side will remain submerged, only revealed to a handful of people...⠀

This was the last iceberg that I photographed during the last day of the Silent Expedition in Greenland, on our way back to Ittoqqortoormiit.⠀

Driving in Iceland is definitely part of the whole experience ! No matter the season or the weather, those winding, empty, gravel roads are sooo hypnotic (and gorgeous)!⠀

This one is pretty scenic and I highly recommend it. It is in the Westfjords, a bit after Djúpavík...⠀
