Some nights are simply too improbable to plan for.

On Utö, the Perseids were streaking across the sky while a distant thunderstorm kept flashing over the Baltic. A rare overlap of two completely unrelated phenomena — comet fragments burning up above, and lightning exploding far beyond the horizon. I’ve photographed plenty of night skies, but conditions like these may come only once in a lifetime. ⚡️☄️

The Night Everything Aligned

For a brief moment, the sky became a meeting point for two very different kinds of violence: lightning exploding inside distant storm clouds, and fragments of a comet burning themselves out above me as the Perseids crossed the sky.

A thunderstorm and an active meteor shower sharing the same clear patch of sky is the kind of once-in-a-lifetime coincidence you don’t plan for. Being on a tiny island in the Baltic when it happened felt like an incredible privilege.

Where Time Was Layered

Just standing there for a moment while the water drops 128 meters into the canyon below. Hard not to stare at it a little longer than planned. The red bands across the cliffs are layers, millions of years of eruptions quietly stacked like pages in a book. A place easy to get lost in your thoughts.
