On aeg tutvustada järgmist kunstnikku Vaskjala Loomeresidentuuris. Allison Roberts on fotokunstnik ja kunstipedagoog Ameerika Ühendriikidest, sündinud Oklahomas. Ta on omandanud kaunite kunstide magistrikraadi (MFA) Wisconsini Ülikoolis ja täiendanud ennast mitmes teises Ülikoolis oma kodumaal.

Allison nimetab oma loomingulist meetodit läätsepöhiseks kunstiks, kuna enamasti on kaasatud tema pildi loomesse lisaks fotoaparaadile ka video- või fotoprojektsioon. Märkimisväärne osa tema praktikast on kohaspetsiifiline, kombineerides interjööri ja eksterjööri, ruume ja igapäevaelu ümbrust ning looduslikku keskkonda. Füüsilise ja digitaalse ruumi kokku sulatamise kaudu loob ta kompositsioone uuest killustatud reaalsusest, kus midagi oleks nagu tuttavat ja samas ka võõras. Läbi selle vastanduse ja kergelt irriteeriva ebakindluse, jäetakse vaataja kahtlema nähtu tõlgenduses ja taju usaldusväärsuses. Allison uurib mälu, mälu moonutusi ja ebakindlusest tulenevat ebamugavust, mis mõjutab käesolevat hetke.

Sellel laupäeval 20. oktoobril alates 17.00 saab näha Vaskjala loomeresidentuuris Allison Robertsi videoinstallatsiooni ja fotoseeriat. Olete oodatud tervitama kunstnikku ja avastama tema loomingut.

It is time to introduce the next artist at Copper Leg Art Residency. Allison Roberts is a photo artist and art teacher from the United States, born in Oklahoma. She has earned an advanced degree in art at the University of Wisconsin and enriched herself in several other universities in her home country.

Allison calls her creative method a lens-based art, since in most of her images, in addition to the photo camera, she also uses video or photo projections. A significant part of her practice is site-specific, mixing the interior and exterior architecture, the spaces and surroundings of daily life, and the natural environment. By melting together the physical and digital space, she is creating compositions of new fragmented reality, where things are familiar and at the same time unfamiliar. Through this controversy and slightly irritating uncertainty, the viewer is left to wonder about the credibility of perception and the interpretation of apparent reality. Allison explores memory, the distortions of memory and the discomfort of uncertainty impacting the present.

On this Saturday, October 20th. starting from 17.00, the video installation and photo series of Allison Roberts will be shown at Copper Leg Residency. You are welcomed to greet the artist and discover her creations.

1ST OPEN CALL WINTER / SPRING 2019

Disciplines: All Disciplines

Location: Vaskjala village, Rae Parish, Harju County, Estonia (18 km from Tallinn city center)

Deadline: 1 November 2018

Duration: 2 weeks – 2 months

Eligibility: Artists of all nationalities, all ages, and all disciplines.

Support: Housing, private bedroom, studio space and the possibility to use the printmaking workshop and photography dark room, letter of support to apply for a travel grant.

Costs: Free stay for artists who are willing to give workshops, organize events or make an exhibition on site. Artists must be able to cover their traveling and living expenses.

Program Description:

The Copper Leg Art Residency is located 18 km from Tallinn city center, in the village of Vaskjala, in an old school building surrounded by fields. The house was constructed in 1934 and was newly renovated in the summer of 2017. It is a meeting point for creative people, visual artists, musicians, writers etc. for making their art and showing it to people.

The Residency is managed by the Cultural Centre of Rae and provides residents with accommodation and working spaces, also supporting them in organizing public events, exhibitions, concerts, performances, workshops, and cultural gatherings.

The area is very calm and surrounded by beautiful nature which makes it a quiet space to live and work in. At the same time, the Estonian capital city Tallinn is easily reachable, one can get to the City center in 25 min by bus or in 15 min by car.

We are opening this call to artists for our winter/spring season from January to April 2019. The minimum stay is 2 weeks and the maximum 2 months.

The residency has three open calls every year:

Applications for our Summer Residency Program open February 1st and are due April 1st.

Applications for our Autumn / Winter Residency Program open May 1st and are due July 1st.

Applications for our Winter / Spring Residency Program open September 1st and are due November 1st.

Languages we speak and understand: English, Russian and Estonian
