This is nuts. 🫣 And I'm still processing it.👇
Three weeks ago, I shared that I had been awarded the European Photographer (EP) qualification. At the time, one comment from the judges stood out:
"This photographer should be encouraged to apply for a QEP."
And just like that... the challenge was accepted!
💥 Today, I’m delighted to share that I have been awarded the Qualified European Photographer (QEP) title in the Commercial category by the FEP Federation of European Professional Photographers.
Unlike many photography distinctions that evaluate individual images, the QEP recognises a coherent and consistent body of work. The panel must demonstrate not only technical excellence, but also a clear personal vision, authorship, and the ability to sustain that vision across an entire series.
Receiving both distinctions within such a short period is something I never expected when I first picked up a camera a little over eight years ago.
Photography can feel like a solitary profession, but achievements like this are never created alone.
Big thanks to:
🤝 Suomen Ammattivalokuvaajat ry for supporting professional photographers and providing their members with a pathway that made this journey possible.
🤝 Dialab Oy for the exceptional print quality and for helping ensure the panel reached the jury in Sofia, Bulgaria.
🤝 Finnfoto ry for believing in my ‘Not Just For the Eye’ project from the very beginning.
🤝 Every client, colleague, friend, and supporter who has trusted me, encouraged me, challenged me, and followed my journey.
🙌 Mika Levälampi for challenging me to look at my work through different eyes and helping me see the panel from a perspective beyond my own.
❤️🔥 And here's to my family, for seeing the part nobody else does. The doubts, the setbacks, and the rollercoaster behind the scenes.
The timing makes this achievement even more special, arriving just before my birthday - yet recognition is more like a checkpoint than a destination. A reminder to keep learning, refining, experimenting, and pushing the work further.
Soon it's time to celebrate Midsummer, another trip around the sun, and perhaps take a moment before asking the inevitable question:
What's next? 👀
