What a start to June it has been. It feels that time for resting has been in short supply.
It all started right away on 1st June, when I spent 8 hours romping around Lauhanvuoren national park searching for Finnish forest reindeer. And find them I did. As always a magical moment. A small herd of 6 females of various ages from 1 year old to adult.
On 2nd of June, I spent the morning investigating Elsa Resort | Juhlat ja yritystilaisuudet old peat extraction area that has been turned into a wetland with success.
Half of 3rd June went driving home from Kauhajoki, but I managed to drag myself to check on a flying squirrel. It did not hang around, but left quickly to feed.
Thursday the 4th June was time to drive to Asiakkala and introduce Slovenian exchange students to nature photography in Finland. And then on the 5th, I was helping out at Rammat retkeilijät ry, Rare and 💚 Hyria Uumo - Uudenmaankatu 249, Hyvinkää at Erämessut.
The 6th dawned dull and wet, and my nature photography hike was cancelled, so I resort to one photo I took on a preparation hike. The 7th was time to pack my camping gear for the coming week.
Monday 8th I was on the road again. This time heading for Tiilikkajärvi national park. There I hiked for 3 days with students from Keuda and their Slovenian colleagues.
From Tiilikkajärvi, I set off for Lapland with my destination being the threatend Viiankaaapa mire. I spent one early morning, one night, and one morning exploring the mire. And what a wonderful place it is too, especially when the sun shone. It rained quite a bit in between too, so I got to rest.
On Saturday 13th it wad time to break camp. So I drove to Äkäslompolo and Pallas-Yllästunturi national park. There I decided to follow the route up Kesänkitunturi and am I happy I did. Such a wonderul route.
After a wondeful walk, I stopped off for a burger in Äkäslompelo before driving to Kolari to catch the night tran home. The car train is so handy, I just wish VR Matkalla would have more options.
On the 14th I areived home and unpacked. And for that day a photo of two reindeer on a meadow in Sodankylä.
