The longest journey many of us will ever face won’t be between two places, but the one that separates who we were from who we are or might become.
Life passes by as we try to return to an older version of ourselves, one that no longer exists, while we live blinded to the present.
Our egos build empires that, ultimately, will abandon us. That ego pushes us to react, rather than listening. It leads us to compare ourselves to measure our worth, or to fear making mistakes or show vulnerability. That guilt and shame we carry will turn our past into a prison. But those emotions can prove us that our values are still there. Feeling them consciously, tied to the ship’s mast, like Odysseus, listening to the Sirens’ Song, will put us in front of a painful mirror, one that reveals the awakening of our consciousness. Seeing our own shadows doesn’t mean we’re trapped in them, it means we’ve turned on the light and, for the first time, we’re ready to decide what to do with what we’ve just discovered.
Fear makes us destroy what we desire most. And when reality hurts too much, we all end up looking for our own “lotus flower”, a distraction, a person, an addiction. Something to numb us to what we’ve been trying to hide for so long.
Many of these prisons may not seem like it at first. They’re like Calypso and her island, a comfortable place, a refuge where we can stay forever if we want, protected from pain. But in return, we’ll have to pay a price, slowly letting go on ourselves, on asking who we really are. This is how many of us end up living disconnected from our authentic self, simply moving forward, surviving, forgetting how to feel.
But even then, there is something that remains, a voice that can never be silenced. Some call it God, the Universe, fate, or consciousness… Whatever it is, it is within us simply to show us our way back. But this isn’t a journey back to who we were, it’s a new path that will turn us into someone capable of returning.
And so, we embark, without realizing that, perhaps, it was never about getting anywhere, but about becoming ourselves, once again 🤍
