The Empire Diner, Chelsea, New York, May 2011.

Art deco curves and steel paneling, this diner helped start a trend of upscale retro diners in Manhattan. Bruce Springsteen supposedly proposed to Patti Scialfa on a bench across the street.

When I took this photo, the original diner had already closed and the building was probably between owners. The Empire Diner name was still up, but the small Empire State Building replica that used to sit on its roof missing from the corner. I’m not sure, but I think the replica is back on the roof.

Another set of photos from across the US, mostly taken along Route 66. Buildings and places. There was so much to see and point a camera at here. This is just a tiny bit of everything I collected.

Route 66 was already well past its prime by 2010. So many places had been abandoned and left to fall apart. It was very exciting. I’ve always appreciated the beauty in entropy and this road trip felt a bit like watching decay happen in real time. I love the imprint people make on their environment. Some of it stays even after they’re gone. But nothing stays permanently. That’s the only constant.

I grew up on American culture. So deep America feels like an amusement park to me. I’m grateful I got to see this stretch of it before it disappears for good.

I had so much fun going through old photos last month, especially from the coast to coast US road trip I did in 2010. Lots of great captures I want to share here.

I had just bought a Panasonic GF1 that I mostly used with a tiny pancake lens, equivalent of 40mm on the micro 4/3 system. What a legendary camera. Small and lightweight.

Here’s a first batch: cars of (mostly) Route 66. Photos of vehicles I found across the US.

We also made a Spotify playlist for the road trip. Mostly American soft rock from the 70s and a few random songs thrown in. If I remember correctly. Link in bio if you want to listen while you look. :)

Anyone else been on Route 66? Where did you go? Whats the best place in the world to explore by car?

Tallinn, Estonia
May, 2013

Rented an apartment from this lady. She wasn’t afraid to mix stripes & plaid. And she made us breakfast with some kind of pink sausage and perfectly round fried eggs with ketchup.

The apartment had an AMAZING color scheme. Check out the interior design of this place.

Playing around with infrared.

Photos taken during recent travels in Germany, from north to south. Fascinated by these scenes reimagined through a different color spectrum.

Marseille, France
September 2025

First time in Marseille and only visited for a day. The ferry to Château d’If was closed due to choppy sea so we took the bus to Parc Borély but apparently no dogs are allowed. Take note canine owners!

We still had a nice time. Loved the colors in the subway, for example. Beaches were pretty nice too. Also we managed to talk ourselves out of being caught without tickets on the bus. That was pretty stressful but satisfactory. Those French ticket controllers are quite intimidating, but playing the tourist card worked this time.
