🌿 CAPTURANDO A NATUREZA · Arenteiro Fotográfico 2026

Este setembro volvo formar parte de Arenteiro Fotográfico, no Carballiño, coa miña exposición Capturando a Natureza.

Unha selección de fotografías que nace de algo que cada vez define máis a miña maneira de entender a paisaxe: coñecer os lugares, regresar a eles e aprender a miralos.

Saltwater Veil

A few days ago we returned to Santa Comba, one of those iconic corners of the Costa Ártabra, hoping that low tide and an unsettled summer sky would give us something interesting to work with.

Drained Soul Photography spotted the potential of this scene first and called me over to take a look. There was definitely a photograph hidden among those rocks. Once I found the composition I wanted, there was only one thing left to do: wait for the right wave.

I wanted a wave strong enough to surround the foreground rocks, fill the scene with movement and, if everything aligned, spill over the rock on the right like a tiny saltwater waterfall.

Eventually, the Atlantic delivered.

For a brief moment, the rocks were wrapped in white water while the wave poured towards me, leading the eye through the narrow opening towards the sea stack beyond. Above it, heavy storm clouds dominated the sky, with just a thin strip of warm sunset light breaking through near the horizon.

Not the clear sunset I might have wished for — but definitely a much more dramatic one.

Sometimes you build the composition.

And then you wait for the landscape to finish it. 🌊

The Veil of Summer

Another photograph from that unexpected August morning at Fervenza de Torez.

With the river carrying less water than on my usual visits, I was able to move upstream and get much closer to the main waterfall, standing just a few metres away in the middle of the river.

A small cascade flowing over moss-covered rocks became the foreground, leading the eye deeper into the scene, where the main fall emerged through the drifting mist.

Everything around me was green. Deep, vibrant, almost impossibly alive after the rain.

Same morning, same waterfall — but a much more intimate way of experiencing it.

Sometimes less water reveals a completely different landscape. 🌿💧

A Breath of Summer

After weeks of relentless heat, Galicia finally gave us a break.

A cloudy forecast and some rain were enough to send us towards the Mariña Lucense, and what we found at Fervenza de Torez felt almost unreal. The forest was intensely green and alive, the river had regained some strength, and mist drifted slowly around the main waterfall.

The lower cascades were quieter, exposing rocks and textures that are often hidden beneath the water, while the main fall disappeared into the mist between the towering walls of the gorge.

After so many hot days, spending a morning in the forest, surrounded by rain, water and cool air, felt like a breath of fresh air.

And this time, I had a new companion discovering it all for the first time: Besta, a five-month-old canine sidekick, on her first waterfall adventure. 🐾🌿

Sometimes, Galicia just needs a little rain to remind you why you love it.

📸 TALLER DE FOTOGRAFÍA EN ORTIGUEIRA

O xoves 20 de agosto ás 18:00 h celebramos en La Ortiga (Ortigueira) un novo taller de Iniciación á Fotografía e Mirada Fotográfica.

Un taller pensado para aprender a sacar máis partido á túa cámara, pero sobre todo para aprender a mirar e fotografar con intención.

The Fang at the Edge of the Atlantic

A few steps away from the cave I shared a few days ago, the landscape reveals a completely different face.

From this angle, the sea stack looks almost like a giant fang rising from the Atlantic, standing firm against the waves and the approaching storm.

For this composition, I used the dark coastal rocks in the foreground, their golden veins naturally leading the eye towards the monolith and the dramatic sky beyond. As the sun slipped behind the clouds, the last warm tones collided with the deep greys of the storm, creating one of those evenings where the atmosphere becomes part of the landscape itself.

Sometimes, all it takes is a few metres to discover a completely different photograph.

The Golden Threshold

This weekend I returned to the Acantilados de Loiba for sunset. In the middle of summer they're full of visitors, so instead of staying at the crowded viewpoints, I wandered down to a well-known place at the base of the cliffs in search of quieter corners.

As I walked, I remembered a small sea cave I had photographed more than five years ago.

I wanted to see it again.

This time, I brought the Brightin Star 11mm F2.8 II Fisheye, knowing its perspective could give the scene a completely different feel. Inside the cave, the golden veins running through the rock naturally guided the eye towards the entrance, where the last light of the day illuminated the cliffs and the solitary sea fang beyond.

To capture the entire scene, I stitched panoramic images from vertical frames. Combined with the fisheye perspective, it created a composition full of curves, depth and flowing lines that simply weren't possible in my original photograph.

The funny thing is... this wasn't the image I had gone out to make.
Sometimes the best photographs come from giving an old place a second chance. And looking at the result, I realised something else had changed too.

Not the cave.

Sunrise Over Home

It's been a while since I last shared an aerial photograph, so returning with one from Mugardos, my hometown, felt like the perfect choice.

A couple of months ago, on a spring weekday, I set my alarm a little earlier than usual before work, hoping to catch the first light over my town. I wasn't expecting much... but the moment the sun cleared the horizon, the sky exploded into warm golds and vibrant reds.

From above, the harbour, the pier and the colourful waterfront slowly came to life, while Ferrol emerged in the background beneath the morning light.

I also took the opportunity to put the new DJI Mini 5 Pro through its paces. It was the perfect excuse to see this familiar landscape from a fresh perspective.
Sometimes all it takes is one early alarm to be reminded that home can still surprise you.

Before the Rain Fell

Some sunsets don't end with the sun disappearing below the horizon.

They end with the sky putting on one final show.

That evening at Punta Frouxeira, the atmosphere felt heavy. The air was warm and saturated with humidity, the kind of weather that tells you a storm is only moments away. Dark clouds gathered over the Atlantic while rain was already falling in the distance.

Then, for a few brief minutes, everything changed.

The entire sky ignited with deep oranges and golden light, contrasting against the dark storm clouds and creating one of the most surreal sunsets I've witnessed. It almost felt otherworldly.

For the composition, I returned to one of my favourite viewpoints. The sculpted rock formations in the foreground naturally lead the eye towards the lighthouse, while the dramatic sky becomes the perfect backdrop. It's a scene I've photographed before, but no two evenings here are ever the same.

This image was captured with the Brightin Star 14mm F2.8, whose wide perspective helped emphasise the sweeping foreground and the scale of the sky without losing the connection between the rocks and the lighthouse.

A few minutes later, the rain arrived, the colours disappeared, and we packed up our gear.

Sometimes, the most unforgettable light only lasts long enough for a handful of frames.

Where the Forest Holds the Sun

This photograph was taken a few weeks ago in Hayedo de Belaustegi, during a much sunnier morning than we had expected for forest photography.

Normally, I prefer softer light in the woods, but this scene made me stop immediately.
I positioned myself and waited until the sun aligned perfectly with one of the branches, creating a small sunstar through the canopy.

What I love most about this image is the contrast: the beech tree remains slightly darker, almost silhouetted, while the light filters through its branches and touches parts of the roots in the foreground, leaving other areas in shadow.

That mix of light and darkness creates texture, depth and a sense of atmosphere that I find especially appealing in forest photography.
The whole forest was bursting with spring life — intense greens, lush vegetation and the warmth of a June morning surrounding everything.

I captured this with the Brightin Star 14mm F2.8, whose wide perspective allowed me to include both the roots at my feet and the towering beech above in a single frame.

Even when the light isn’t what I initially hoped for, moments like this remind me that forests always find a way to surprise you.
