Today is Cultural Diversity Day: “A day to highlight not only the richness of the world's cultures, but also the essential role of intercultural dialogue for achieving peace and sustainable development “
I could not think of a better moment to invite you to visit my current Photo Exhibition “EGYPT: Where it all began…” which will be running until July 2023. ✨❤️💚💛✨
About me: I am Charissa, Guyanese born, Grenadian and Barbadian raised and have been blessed to be able to satisfy my culturally curious nature and live for significant periods in 8 countries on 4 continents. I have travelled extensively to a variety of other destinations but incredibly proud of this body of work I created in Egypt, one of the oldest civilizations in the world.
My background is in Natural Resources Management where I interned with the Sustainable Tourism Department of the Caribbean Tourism Organization before working with environmentally focused NGOs at UNDP. However my fascination with cultural diversity started when I was an AFS intercultural exchange student and chose to live in Guatemala so as to become fluent in Spanish and study the Mayan Civilization (pre internet days:)!
Fun fact: My first tattoo was from Tikal where my dearest Norwegian bestie Christine and I held hands, squeezed our eyes shut (tattoos were definitely more painful back then!) and decided to get thé exact Mayan symbol on our opposing shoulders.
After my UNDP days, I then embarked upon the most important career move of my life to motherhood and picked up my first camera with the birth of my first child before studying photography at EFTI in Madrid while pregnant with my second…and that was over ten years ago. The rest is history as they say…
