So things have been super busy on this side and I haven’t been able to come here often!

And it so happens that these were here laying around waiting for me to share them, so I might as well do it now, because I have so much I want to say about these!

First shout out to ANDREA DAVID • DESTINATION WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER for these! We spent a morning in Retiro for two personal branding photo sessions, hers and mine and we had a lot of fun and it was also super hard, all at the same time. Being in front of the camera is never easy and we photographers know pretty well that if we say “just act natural” it does nothing for the client. Still a personal branding photo session is so much more than “act natural”, because they are much more intentional than a family photo session for example.

I needed just a couple of new headshots for the website and some presentations I send to clients and I love these, specially the first one! It speaks volumes to me that I’m surrounded by green, holding a cute film camera (which was Andrea’s, since mine is repairing!) and wearing lipstick, which was once so on brand for me, since I wouldn’t leave the house without putting on some red lipstick.

I decided to also include some outtakes, because this is my account and I do what I want! Ah!

Thank you Andrea!!!! I’m already using these headshots everywhere!

The ocean completely fascinates me… I love its intensity, how dark and bright it can be, how healing and scary, how deep and shallow.

It holds a multitude of worlds underneath, so complex I can’t even begin to imagine everything that exists down there.

It’s the one thing I’m eager to dive into when we go on summer vacations.

Water, salt, waves… coming and going.

Usually during summer season I have a couple of sessions that start around 8am, but I’m usually out on the street shooting quite before that.

I love doing this, because the city looks really peaceful and quiet, even if the public transportation is already crowded with people starting their day super early.

The first sun rays hitting the top of the buildings, businesses opening, people cleaning before opening to public, owners with their dogs for their first walk, parents walking their children to school… all of this is filled with life and energy of a new day just beginning.

Since moving to Madrid and working a lot with families visiting for a couple of days, that I have been having more and more photo sessions with families that have older kids.

And what began as a challenge for me, it ended up being something that I love doing!

This family was the absolute best! They were super friendly, love the colors they chose for the session, and the light was the cherry on top!

I loved capturing all 5 siblings hanging out together, and a chat with their mom made me feel so hopeful for my kids to be a bit more grownup, though I usually dread teenage years 🤭😬

If you’re visiting Madrid with your family, reach out to capture a bit of your family while here! Annual family photos don’t have to be annual nor in the same area!

Every time we go on summer vacations I try to sneak out for an hour for a late afternoon photo session all by myself. I wander around and try my best to capture the essence of the place we’re spending our days in.

This time it was Fuseta in Olhão, Portugal, and it really does look like it stopped in time decades ago.

The tile, the aluminum doors, but also all the beautiful wooden doors with the iron details, the bougainvilleas that seem to be living their best life, all the colors and weathered walls.

I feel like this tiny village may get a lot more attention in the future, and a house here would definitely be a good investment. You can get to such charming areas on foot or within a very short drive!

We were able to stay right in the center of the village where we had all sorts of restaurants and bakeries, the kids had fun walking around, there was a cute ice-cream/sweets stand in the middle of the square with all the restaurants… nights were warm, but just enough.

We had such a great time here!

Back when summer was starting officially, but we were already a month in, I did this family photo session in one of the most well kept secret parks/gardens in Madrid - El Capricho.

So many cute corners and extended lawns to run with the kids, so many flowers (in the SUMMER!!), streams and lakes, ducks here and there… and never crowded.

I also loved meeting this family, they were just incredible, relaxed, super comfortable for their session, and just spending time together. All of this plus the location, and it became one of my favorite sessions of the year!

Summer postcards from our week in Portugal.

I had never been to this area before, except for Praia do Barril, but was always very curious. We rented a house in Fuseta and explored the beaches around.

Sun, sea, salt… we had plenty of fresh grilled fish, ice-cream, seafood, olives and “bola de berlim”.

We had been to Cantabria and Mallorca and I was feeling a bit homesick of Portugal in the summer. My heart was quite full by the end of this week and I believe kids also had a blast!

The people I used to leave out.
I’ve been looking through some old photos recently and noticed again something I may have shared before, but never did this kind of research on my archives.

I used to photograph places very differently. A market stall, a narrow street, a cathedral roof. I would notice the details, the architecture, the beautiful little things, but somehow people were often left out more often than not.

I remember travelling through Vienna, Prague and Berlin about ten years ago and being told that I didn’t quite seem like myself when I was taking photographs. I think I was trying to find something more in the places I was visiting, without really knowing what that meant.
Looking at these photographs now, I find it interesting to put some of them side by side. The same place, or almost the same area, but with a different focus. The lettuces on a market stall, or the woman selling them. A passageway in Vienna, or the woman walking through it. The details of a cathedral, or two people talking outside another church.

Neither photograph is better. They just tell me something different.

I still hesitate when photographing strangers. But I’m much more interested in leaving them in the frame now.

Went on a memory trip to search for a beach photo I had taken years ago and ended up going through these photos in Seville taken 12 years ago.

And this menu consisting of “Paella + Bebida” for 5€ made me gasp!

Interestingly enough I visited Seville several times over the years and August was the most common time for those visits, which is probably the worst month to visit the city.
