How does Picfair work? An honest way for photographers to make money from their pictures A new standard for images The image business is upside down. A $6 billion professional industry controlled by agencies and middlemen, who fix the prices and take, on average, 74% of the fees. Yes, you've read that right: from legacy giants to microstock sites, the vast majority of royalties go to anyone but the photographer. There has never been an alternative. There has never been a place where photographers can retain control over the prices of their images, and get what they ask for. There has never been a pure, open marketplace for images, where sellers – both amateur and professional - sell directly to buyers. That's why Picfair was launched. We believe in rewarding creativity, rather than exploiting it. And it's working. Since launch, thousands of photographers from 52 countries across the world (including China, India, Iraq, Afghanistan...) have already added tens of thousands of images to Picfair's library. They are stunning. Picfair images have already been used across the world, from banking websites looking for non-conventional stock images, to travel agencies looking for affordable ways to promote their destinations, and even on newspaper front pages. Join us How it works After uploading an image and giving it a price (which you can change at any time), your name and Picfair's logo are baked into the image as a light watermark, and the image appears on the site. The original, full-size image is stored on a secure server – the only way to access this is to pay for it. If someone wants to use your image, they must pay the price you have set, plus a 20% commission to Picfair, and a small payment processing fee. For example, if you have set an image price of £5, this is how we'll charge: Once it's paid for, your balance will be increased by the pic price, and you'll be able to cash it out - we pay into whatever account you want, by BACS or Paypal. We only ask for your payment details once you've made a sale. Picfair for publishers Some agencies offer over 320,000 ways to licence a single image. Picfair offers one licence to rule them all, easy-to-read license.
