Built in 1907 by Khedive Abbas Helmy and designed by the famous Italian architect Antonio Lashak, the Palace was home to Princess Aisha, the daughter of Ali Basha Fahmy, the head of the army during King Fouad’s reign. It is a gem in the midst of busy Cairo. A snapshot of what Egypt was like in the early 20th century. A fusion of European, Asian and Egyptian cultures. The Popolo Obelisk is the second oldest and one of the tallest obelisks in Rome. It was brought to Rome in 10 BC by order of Augustus. The obelisk of Sety I from Heliopolis stands in the centre of the Piazza. Three sides of the obelisk were carved during the reign of Sety l and the fourth side under Rameses ll.
