🎢 Cinema, music & a journey into another world.

🎢 THE CRAZY STRANGER

What happens when a stranger enters a world he doesn’t understand?

Can music cross the borders that language cannot?

And can a journey to find one singer become a journey into another culture β€” and into yourself?

🎬 The Crazy Stranger / Gadjo Dilo
1997 β€” France & Romania
πŸŽ₯ Directed by Tony Gatlif
⭐ Romain Duris β€’ Rona Hartner β€’ Izidor Serban
⏱️ 102 min
🌍 Drama β€’ Music β€’ Romani Culture

StΓ©phane, a young French man, travels to Romania in search of Nora Luca, a legendary singer whose voice was loved by his late father.

Along the way, he meets Izidor, an older Romani man who takes him to his village. At first, StΓ©phane is seen as a strange outsider β€” someone who doesn’t speak the language and knows nothing about their way of life.

But slowly, through music, dancing, celebration, friendship and love, the distance between them begins to disappear.

🎻 Tony Gatlif β€” himself of Romani heritage β€” creates a film where music is not simply part of the soundtrack. It becomes a language of its own: a way to communicate, remember, celebrate and survive.

The film explores prejudice, cultural identity, hospitality, freedom and the power of music to bring people together. It also captures the beauty and energy of Romani life while revealing the discrimination and hostility surrounding the community.

From wild celebrations to intimate musical moments, The Crazy Stranger is full of movement, emotion and unforgettable sounds.

A film about searching for a voice…
and finding a whole world.

πŸŒ™ Let’s gather around cinema, music and stories from elsewhere.

🎬 2 Years of Cinema Wadi in Dahab 🌴

Two years ago, we started with a simple idea:

What if cinema could travel?

We started bringing films to Dahab in small pop-up screenings, with limited equipment and no permanent cinema space.

Today, Cinema Wadi has become a growing film community β€” screening independent, alternative, classic and world cinema in different places across Dahab.

From the beach to the mountains, from art spaces to restaurants, hostels and hidden spots…

We built a cinema experience that belongs to the place. πŸŒ™πŸŽžοΈ

And this is what you see in this video at Bambaloni.

The screen.
The sound.
The people.
The atmosphere.
And a film playing under the Dahab sky.

After two years, we believe we’ve created more than screenings.

We’ve created a space for cinema and film culture in South Sinai.

And we’re still travelling.
Still discovering new places.
Still bringing more films to Dahab.

Cinema Wadi β€” cinema that travels. 🎬🏜️

β˜€οΈ THE BLAZING SUN

Egyptian Cinema Night πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡¬

What happens when knowledge threatens power?

What happens when love crosses the lines of class?

And what happens when the people who work the land are forced to fight for what is already theirs?

🎬 The Blazing Sun / Ψ΅Ψ±Ψ§ΨΉ في Ψ§Ω„ΩˆΨ§Ψ―ΩŠ
1954 β€” Egypt
πŸŽ₯ Directed by Youssef Chahine
⭐ Faten Hamama β€’ Omar Sharif β€’ Zaki Rostom
⏱️ 110 min
πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡¬ Egyptian Arabic

Set in the villages of Upper Egypt near Luxor, the film follows Ahmed, a young agricultural engineer who returns home with new ideas for improving the local sugar-cane crops.

His success begins to threaten the interests of a powerful landowner, Taher Pasha. At the same time, Ahmed is in love with the Pasha’s daughter, Amal.

What begins as a love story becomes a much larger struggle β€” land, wealth, class, power and the relationship between those who own the land and those who work it.

And there is something special about this film in Egyptian cinema history:

This was Omar Sharif’s film debut, alongside Faten Hamama, before he became one of Egypt’s most internationally recognized actors.

Chahine combines melodrama, romance and social realism, using the landscape of Upper Egypt as more than a backdrop β€” the valley, the fields and the river become part of the story itself.

The film was also selected for the 1954 Cannes Film Festival, marking an early international moment for Chahine and Egyptian cinema.

🌾 A film about the land.
❀️ A film about love.
βš–οΈ A film about power.

And almost 70 years later, the questions are still worth gathering around.

🎬 Let’s watch Egyptian cinema together.
