Everyone has their own definition of culture, but despite our differences, culture continues to bring us together, preserve our heritage, and connect us to our roots.

Culture is our heritage a precious identity that connects us to our roots. It must be preserved, protected, and passed on from one generation to the next.

Two Khorfulus Soldiers of 1986 Reunite During Cham Dhang of Akej Community

Two former Khorfulus soldiers who joined the SPLA in 1986 met again during the Cham Dhang of the Akej Community at Madani Rainbow—a remarkable reunion of two men who shared a chapter of South Sudan’s liberation history.

General Aywok Ogad joined the SPLA in 1986 at Bilpam, Ethiopia, under the Khorfulus Division. After years of military service and significant contributions to the liberation struggle, he later served in public office as Commissioner of Manyo County.

His journey did not end there. He was later called back into military service and came to Juba. Today, despite facing difficult circumstances and being marginalized within the SSPDF, he has turned his attention toward community service and leadership.

His former colleague, Michael Mayong, also shared the same military experience. Their reunion provided an opportunity to reconnect after many years apart.

Mayong was among those who received an opportunity to pursue education after serving as a red army. He later served as SPLA/SPLM County Secretary of Fashoda County. Today, both men are no longer holding military or political positions, despite the wealth of experience they have accumulated throughout their lives.

These are people whose experience, knowledge, leadership and service to the country should not be wasted. South Sudan can still benefit greatly from people who have served both in the military and in public and political leadership.

Their stories remind us that our elders and former leaders carry valuable lessons that should be passed on to the younger generation.

I wish you both the best of luck and good health for as long as you continue to live. Your contributions and legacy should never be forgotten.
