On The Edge Fest

On The Edge Fest Dokumenteerides sürreaalsete aegade lagunemist ulatutakse äärealadeni, mis paistavad olevat muu maailma poolt unustuse hõlma vajunud.

On the Edge Fest - uus festivaliformaat piiriäärsetest konfliktidest läbi kaamerasilma / Ukraina dokumentaalfotograafia esitlus
On the Edge Fest - a new festival format about border conflicts through a camera lense / Ukrainian documentary photography EST (ENG below)

On the Edge Fest (tlk piiri peal, ääre peal) on uus pikema perspektiiviga projekt, mille sisuks on võtta luubi alla piiriäärsed ko

ENG

On the Edge Fest is a new long-term project, the content of which is to take a closer look at borderline conflicts in different regions, especially where there has been war or other current social problems. The project's ambition
is to develop it into a thematic and regular festival, which involves various institutions and partners and includes both indoor and urban spaces for a visual display, as well as educational and additional programs. The pilot phase of the project is an exposition of Ukrainian photo art, which explores the hidden tensions, as well as geopolitical, psychological, and self-identical fears both inside of a country itself and in its relationship with its neighbors. By describing the decay of the almost surreal periods authors reach the edges – fringe areas and fields of life, which seems to be forgotten by the whole world. This way, they provide us an opportunity to self-reflect, reminding us that freedom and dignity are genuine values of the true society which cares about their own cultural heritage and builds their independent future regardless of the sneaky intentions of aggressors which act under the red veil of common past and present. The topic was picked in the autumn of 2021, yet it became even more relevant with Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022 which has changed our lives. We stand with the Ukrainian people as they fight for their freedom, presenting the works of Ukrainian authors in Estonia is a symbolic as well as an actual statement of support - the exhibition is accompanied by a charity fundraiser, as was also the case at the exhibition on Ukrainian frontline photography in the Okapi Gallery in the spring of 2022. The focus of the exhibition is on ten Ukrainian authors whose projects have been curated by photo artist & gallerist Temuri Khvingia, photo artist, and Andrii Mur, gallerist and Ukrainian street and documentary photographer living in Estonia. The exhibition is prepared in cooperation with the festival Odessa Photo Days (Kateryna Radchenko) and the association of photographers and online gallery Untitled (Mikhail Palinchak).

36 years ago today, the streets of Tbilisi witnessed one of the darkest and most defining moments in Georgia’s modern history. Peaceful demonstrators—mostly students and citizens calling for independence from the evil Soviet Union—gathered on Rustaveli Avenue with hope in their hearts and songs on their lips.
In the early hours of the morning, Russian troops violently dispersed the crowd using gas, batons, and shovels. 21 lives were lost, hundreds were injured, and a nation was forever changed.
But out of that pain came unity. April 9 became a symbol—not only of tragedy but of resilience. Exactly two years later, on April 9, 1991, Georgia declared its independence.
Today, we honor the memory of those who stood for freedom and paid the ultimate price 💔
Today, after 36 years, the nation is fighting the Russian-oriented regime again in the Tbilisi streets. People are continuously being beaten, detained, charged, and bullied by the police forces. We believe in the ultimate victory against the oppressors.

Long live Georgia!

Statement by Georgian photojournalists and documentary photographers‼️

"As Georgian photojournalists and documentary photographers, we are deeply disturbed and outraged by World Press Photo's decision to award the 2025 prize to a representative of the Russian state propaganda agency, TASS, for a photo story documenting the Georgian protests - demonstrations explicitly against Russian influence and occupation in Georgia." - mentioned in the statement.

Our team's full support and solidarity to Georgian photographers and the Georgian people! ✊🇬🇪

Today we remember one of the darkest chapters in Estonian history.

In March 1949, the Soviet regime deported over 20,000 Estonians — mostly women, children and the elderly — to Siberia.

Families were torn apart, homes were left empty. Many never returned.
The aim of Soviet terror was to break the Estonian spirit, silence the culture and replace the people with people loyal to Moscow.

History repeats itself. Just as Stalin’s regime deported Estonians, Putin’s Russia is now deporting Ukrainians, including children, to Russian territory. The methods are the same. So is the suffering. As in Soviet times, deported Ukrainians face filtration camps, forcing “transiting” and psychological pressure to erase their identity. Ukrainian children are adopted into Russian families, losing their names, culture and language.

The parallels are startling. The world must not remain silent.

We remember, we speak, we stand. The world must not forget the crimes of the Soviet Union and modern Russia.

Täna meenutame üht tumedamat peatükki Eesti ajaloos.
1949. aasta märtsis küüditas Nõukogude režiim üle 20 000 eestlase — enamasti naised, lapsed ja vanurid — Siberisse.

Pered lõhuti, kodud jäid tühjaks. Paljud ei naasnudki.
Nõukogude terrori eesmärk oli murda Eesti vaim, vaigistada kultuur ja asendada rahvas Moskvast lojaalsete inimestega.

Ajalugu kordub. Nii nagu Stalini režiim küüditas eestlasi, küüditab Putini Venemaa täna ukrainlasi, sealhulgas lapsi, Venemaa territooriumile. Meetodid on samad.

Paralleelid on ehmatavad. Maailm ei tohi vaikida.

Me mäletame, me räägime, me seisame vastu.
