What a beauty!
This hummingbird is a male Northern Green-crowned Woodnymph, home to the pacific slope of south-west Colombia down to west Ecuador.

Stormy weather 💨💦, style fits 👍

The Black-sided Flowerpecker is endemic to Borneo and the only flowerpecker who calls this island's mountain forests above 1000m altitude its home.
The colours of the male are striking, a shiny blue back and strong scarlet breast patch - difficult to miss once you located their individual territories. Their diet is heavy on fruit and berries, similar to other flowerpeckers.

Pure Ultramarine 💙🐦
Flashback to Ecuador's cloud forests, about a year ago: Masked Flowerpiercers live in the Andes from Columbia down to Peru and Bolivia. They mainly feed on fruit and nectar from flowers. Their small sharp hook at the tip of their upper mandible helps to cut into the base of flowers to access the nectar.

Spring Home Birding 🌼
Backyard birding in Europe isn't as colorful as in Latin America or Asia, but our spring season is unbeatable in terms of bird activity and opportunity for good shots. Here's one of the Black Tit chiefs that 'own' our garden. Black T**s are widespread throughout Europe, the Middle East and Central Asia and feed on small insects, spiders and invertebrates.

Broad Bill 🇲🇾
At home in South-East Asia, Broadbills have a unique flat, broad beak with a small hook at the front. The picture here shows a Banded Broadbill from Borneo.

Red, blue & yellow
Truly this is my favourite woodpecker in Brazil! Yellow-fronted Woodpeckers (here a male in display) are quite common and native to eastern South America's tropical moist lowland forests.

Oriental Pied Hornbill.. during his afternoon snack! These are the only left Hornbills in Singapore, but luckily the population has improved here.
Hornbills are mainly fruiteaters and by this, play a very important part in the forest's survival, spreading the seeds they have eaten. However, insects, small reptiles and amphibs come on the table, too.

Turquoise wonder 🏞
The family of kingfishers (Alcedinidae) is truly facscinating: There are 3 subfamilies, river, water and tree kingfishers, many species with iridescent, dazzling colours.
The tree kingfishers are a large group with about 70 species. Among them are the Kookaburras - and White-throated Kingfishers as shown in this picture. These beautiful birds mainly call tropical Asia their home and feed on insects, worms, snakes, fish and frogs.
