Still crushing the concept of filming and using natural light.

Today, standing right under the Sun still managed to capture something cinematic! đŸŽ„
Applying the same technique like always, shooting from the shadow side will give you depth.

With these shots i also learn a lot, especially the capability of my Sony FX6 so i know what to expect in harsh conditions. How much dynamic range i have in the highlights and in the shadows.

Mastering a camera and being able handle it confidently will give you the freedom to focus on the image you want to capture!

What I mean by that? You have to know what’s the feature you actually need in your camera.

I see a lot of people now waiting for the Sony FX5. Hoping to have IBIS, Internal ND, Global Shutter, Open Gate and Internal Raw recording.

Some don’t get it. There are good to have and must have depending on your shooting style.

Personally I don’t have ibis in the FX6 and I’m completely fine without it. I know how to handle my camera, how to rig out to only have natural handheld look.

Please people out there with these wishes.
Just reconsider your decision based on your needs. Otherwise just wait for that all it can do camera and pay $20.000

Last time it was about natural lights but today it’s about lighting a scene.
Don’t have to think big, sometimes less is more. These scenes were literally lit by a single light source.

Again, using the “correct” framing, shooting from the short side -shadow side- will give you the contrast you need in order to make your subject somewhat look cinematic.

It’s about ratios. The ratio between dark and bright areas. How dark is your background, how bright is your subject, what’s the transition between those two


With these images one more thing helped to elevate the shot to another level. HAZE.
To get that cinematic look you should consider to get a smoke machine, haze up the scene.

The hovering haze around the room will catch all the light spilling around, giving this nice and smooth image. It will make your image softer, just be aware of that.

A good picture or a video is not about the camera you have. It's about lighting and composition, BUT lighting can be about to control what you already have on the scene. The Sun ☀

On these stills you see nothing but Sunlight, harvested. (1 shot has ceiling lamp but that's not for the keylight)
Framing and positioning your subject between your camera and the Sun will give the best image possible. (Depending on your vision of the shot)

All right all right.. The camera can also gives a nice cinematic touch.
