Final image from my project on Amager (so far), exploring peoples relationship with nature and new construction in a fast changing society. I chose this image to 'close' my project, as I feel like the fog, huge buildings and metro rails almost symbolises what I have felt throughout the whole project. That it is almost a new and different world you enter when you enter that part of Amager around Ørestad. It almost feels a bit dystopic, which is also how I from time to time felt when I was walking around empty streets where everything seemed just a bit too perfect, too polished and too empty. At the same time, I started to realize what people love about the contrast between nature and city. The love for how you can have it all: city life and pure nature.
Moving into Ørestad on the metro. Image taken from the Bella Center metro station looking towards Ørestad. This metro line between the city center of Copenhagen and Amager opened in 2002. This was the first metro to open in Denmark and was at the time 11km long.

Eighth and second last image in my series of project about people and their relationship with nature and new construction work around Amager Fælled and the wild nature on Amager. This photo is of Maria, they used to do role plays out here as a kid and to this day still uses this space to hide from the everyday life and dream away to a magical world. They hope that this place will stay intact and wishes that instead of removing wild nature to build apartments, society should use some of the empty buildings around Copenhagen, renovate them and make housing more affordable.
“I chose this spot because I used to do roleplaying here when I was a kid. To me this place still holds the feeling of adventure and magic like it did back then. I love to go here and dream away to an Elver forest. I think it’s important to protect the nature and to not just sell it off to benefit our own living standards. There are already tons of big buildings around Copenhagen that are either empty or too expensive for people to live in.”

This image features Olena. She has lived in Ørestad Syd for 5 years now. She chose this place, because it used to be a field of wild flowers where she would take her daughter and it holds special memories to her. Now it is a massive storage unit with apartments on top and an empty parking lot. We both felt like the 50% sign symbolized how nature is sold off without thinking about the consequences it can have on people.
"The spot of the storage unit is a sad one for me. When we moved here, there was a field of beautiful wildflowers and every summer I took my daughter. It now brings memories. I think it’s beautiful that we can live so close to nature. But I also hope that no more buildings will be coming, because the balance between people and nature will be destroyed for the worse"

Another image in Ørestad Syd of the building 8-tallet. Multiple of my images are about the new style of architecture around the area and what feeling that creates.
Image taken from the outside of the building showing the stairs that goes all the way up to the rooftop terraces.
Designed by architect Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG).
Contains 476 apartments with a size of 62.000 m²
