FRLFoto A page with passion for Jazz and Photography. Catching the energy, Soul and Passion for live music

Hi Folks - My name is Frank Larsen

Combining my passion for Jazz and Blues with a passion for Photography, I find it extremely rewarding to capture the soul of music in images. Jazz and Blues are all about deep feelings - from pain to joy - and Jazz muscians live it all out not just in the music but by their entire body language and mimics when they are on stage. My aim is to try and freeze just

that moment when the artist reaches out and touches the heart of the audience;
Finding those endless seconds when one artist lets himself be completely submersed in the feelings of the groovy solo of a fellow artist on stage;
Catching the energy of a band playing a high beat BeeBop set. Documenting that brief smile on a young artist face when the audience wildly applauses his funky solo that came out just right. My favorite is atending Jam sessions where I try to document all the constellations on stage and share this with the artist here on Facebook. Usually I get a lot of good feedback and I urge artist to tag each other in my images and albums. Jazz venue photography is however not the only thing I do - nature and architecture will be found in these albums too. If you like my pictures or are an artist and would like a full resolution copy of one of the images - feel free to send me a message. I am also available for special photoprojects - but I am no Pro. To me photography is strictly a hobby - though its a passion lasting more than 30 years.

Part 2:

This was the second concert with with international trio Three Parts of Cake at Copenhagen Jazz Festival 2023.
A shorter concert, played at LiteraturHaus, a former church now used as a literary community center for Copenhagen.

Lineup:
Marina Kalhart – Alto voice & Upright bass
Wojtek Morelowski – Trumpet
Juan Borges– Accoustic guitar

Three Parts of Cake is a Copenhagen based international trio. They come from very different backgrounds (France/Poland/Cuba, Royal Danish Academy educated musicians/self-taught musician) giving them a unique and passionate, but elegant and uncomplicated sound that is played with honesty.
A good mix of Latin, Smooth Jazz, Blues and Folk music stirred well with Cuban Rythms, French passion and Polish humor.

It's been a while since my last post - circumstances have kept me away from photography for a while.

But I could not resist a warm invitation to attend and photodocument the two first concerts by Three Parts of Cake at the Copenhagen Jazz Festival 2023.

A big thankyou for inviting me - good to be back.

Welcome to FRL Foto

I am Frank Larsen and I have a passion for Jazz and Photography.

Not many years ago I went to a Jam Session at La Fontaine, during Copenhagen Jazz Festival with a good friend that plays the Soprano saxophone - this was actually my first introduction to Live Jazz music.

I became completely in love with this place and the diversity of people in the audience and the muscicians that plays at this very old Jazz bar.
A very energetic place that makes me happy every time I walk in the door.

I have since then used my passion for photography, for documenting my visits here at Facebook. I have been overwhelmed by the positive feedback my albums from the Jam Sessions have had. I decided to take my passion one step further this summer and have now made this page devoted to sharing my pictures and the soul of music as seen through the lense of my camera.

I still primarily attend the Jam Sessions at La Fontaine but are beginning to seek out other nice places. You will recognize me as the bearded cyclop with an oversized lense attached to his eye crawling around near the stage.

I plan to do photography on a more proffesional level - I have no portrait photography experience, but if you are a muscician that needs a series of creative images to tell a story, document an event - studio session or whatever - give me a message or contact me when you see me at a venue. Then we together figure out if I'm able to help you. If you have the passion I have the camera to capture it ;-)

Enjoy

Frank
