Salt Shapes

Salt evaporation ponds, also called salterns, are shallow artificial ponds designed to extract salts from sea water. To make its sea salt, many companies around the world are using a method called "solar evaporation". Solar salt is produced by the action of sun and wind on seawater in large ponds. The seawater evaporates in successive ponds until the seawater is fully concentrated and the salt then crystallizes on the floor of the pond. Due to variable algal concentrations, vivid colors, from bright blue to deep red, are created in the evaporation ponds. The color indicates the salinity of the ponds.

Tropical Pools – Aerial Perspectives

I’ve always been captivated by the meeting point of land and sea, documenting the intricate patterns shaped by natural forces along coastlines. Usually focused on untouched landscapes, I recently observed an unexpected addition to these views: sprawling vacation resorts and hotels, each with pools that offer a unique architectural form. From above, these pools reveal very unique shapes, textures, and colors – elements I felt compelled to capture.

For this project I worked on a series of aerial shoots, primarily from helicopters, which allowed me to explore and frame these designs from untypical angles. Flying over these resorts offered me an entirely new perspective, highlighting pools that echo or contrast the natural shapes of the surrounding coast. I found joy in documenting these structures, as the project combines two of my photography passions: water-related landscapes and architecture.

The result is a collection that showcases both the beauty of design and the surprising harmony between natural and constructed elements. Each pool tells a story of leisure and human creativity, revealing how our designs become part of the coastal landscape, creating unexpected patterns that transform the environment in playful and thought-provoking ways.

Shapes of the Ocean (Part 1) - Flow -

Oceans are the engine of the Earth's ecosystem. Covering almost 71% of our planet and a crucial part of our existence, they regulate the exchange and storage of carbon dioxide and control the climate. Since I started photographing from an aerial perspective I have a passion for documenting the vast oceans and its ever changing patterns. Especially (remote) coastal areas offer some unique natural shapes formed by corals, sandbanks, rocks or just water streams. Most of these waterscapes only exist for a short time as they are very dependent on natural forces like wind, tides, waves, or the angle of the sun. This body of work showcases the fragile beauty and the appearance of mostly unknown coastal and ocean landscapes in separate parts.

That’s not my usual kind of artwork post, but I found it pretty incredible to come across this airstrip - literally in the middle of nowhere, right in the heart of Argentina’s desert. Wouldn’t mind taking off from here someday.

Frozen Waves

One of the most surreal places I have visited in the past year.
Looking like sea of white stone waves suddenly frozen in time, these structures can be found in the high Andes of Argentina.

The formations originate from massive explosive eruptions thousands of years ago, likely linked to a nearby volcanic system. These eruptions released enormous pyroclastic flows (super-heated clouds of ash, gas, and pumice) that spread across the region and eventually cooled into thick ignimbrite deposits rich in pumice.
