Exciting News! 🎉 The Kunstpreis Ennepe-Ruhr 2023 exhibition opened at Märkisches Museum Witten yesterday, and I'm thrilled to be a part of it with my series and photo book "vague"! With this year’s theme "Liebe deine Welt" ("Love Your World"), 20 unique artistic positions unite for a versatile exhibition.

"vague" deals with the nexus between reality and fiction, dream worlds, otherworldliness and surrealism. In a world that sometimes feels tough and uncertain, let us remember the importance of cherishing the beautiful little things and to see the extraordinary in the ordinary.
Don't miss out on the exhibition and see you there, fellow dreamers! ✨🙌🏼💫

📍Märkisches Museum Witten, Husemannstraße 12, 58452 Witten
🕐 July 1st – September 24th | Wednesday to Sunday, 12pm to 6pm

ADC Talent Award 2023 🥇

My photo book "vague" won Gold at at this years ADC Talent Award – I’m still over the moon and beyond proud! 🤍

Every year, the Art Directors Club honors young creatives for outstanding communication and design achievements.

I am very happy that my work could convince the jury and has received such great words. The English translation of the comment:
"Vague is a visual journey into the world between dream and reality. Photography is used for this book project in all its creative spectrum. The thrilling pictorial rhythm of interchanging portraits, landscapes, objects color alienations, cropping and abstractions creates a visually seductive experience that celebrates the power of images. The photography creates narratives that are not specifically stated, but are clearly palpable. The playful realization presented here is a refreshing counterpoint in our thoroughly structured world and exemplifies the richness of design in photography."

I‘m currently busy working on my new photobook (that’s why you don’t see as much in my feed currently 🫢). But for now, I’d love to share two outtakes which didn’t make it in the book. Had so much fun working with again and I can’t wait to show you more of this project soon 🤍✨

A while ago, Canon Europe interviewed me and Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Daniel Etter about the importance of a portfolio and on how to build it up. The interview resulted in an educational step-by-step guide.

My first camera – given to me by my parents for Christmas when I was 7 years old – was a Canon IXUS 80 IS so I’m even more excited to share this Canon article with you now 📷

Many thanks to Ella Taylor and Siobhan Gaffan for the opportunity and to Rachel Segal Hamilton for the lovely write-up! 🤍

Hope you enjoy reading the article! ✨

Der Tagesspiegel | Das Bild zum Sonntag, 05.06.2022

Last month, published one of my photos again. This time, a portrait of Rita & Doris from my series »invisible bond« got published, where I explore the common identity of sister pairs. Thank you for showing my work! 🗞🤍

“An invisible bond is what Sarah Köster calls the connection between sisters. The photographer explores the trust, the shared identity, in her images. Pictured here are Doris, 77, and Rita, 81. ‘They have always been very close’, says Köster. ‘But through their common stroke of fate of both losing their husbands within a few months in 2017, the grew together even closer. Today, they see each other almost every day.’”

You can find the full project on my website: www.sarahkoester.com/invisible-bond/

Imme (50) had to take responsibility for Britta (56) at a very early age.
She remembers that she was only five or six years old:
“It wasn‘t always easy for me. Sometimes, I just wanted to get rid of her. Today I‘d like to have her with me all the time. We were always very close – because of Britta, I sometimes might have a different, more unbiased view of life.”

Britta, who is severely disabled, says: “I’m Imme‘s biggest fan. She‘s always cooking for me what I want and takes me to McDonald‘s.”
