Rosetta Nebula / NGC 2237, a beautiful emission nebula in the constellation of Monoceros.

I was/am so pleased with how my de-bayered SIGMA fp has performed that I saw a de-bayered SIGMA fpL as an absolute must. I finally go the chance to try out my monochrome fpL in November, having managed to chase down a small hole in the clouds in northern Italy. The conditions were hard: The wind-side of the car was covered with ice before I had finished the set-up, so that I run out of juice before I could get all the data I wanted, nevertheless im still really pleased with the result. There is some really nice "smoking gun" effects in the S-II data that I wasn't aware of before (and didn't see in the 5 minute subs) so I will definitely be looking for an off-center composition next time i'm out ...

Elephant Trunk Nebula / IC 1396

Fighting against the billowing fog, I am still very pleased with the H-alpha and S-III narrowband data I was able to get.

Taking with the SIGMA fp (monochrome) / SIGMA fp L / Celestron RASA 11" / 10 Micron GM1000 Mount.

Total acquisition time ca. 2.5 hrs, ISO 1600, F2.2, 620mm

The narrowband results are distributed into R/G/B as S/HS/H

Pelican Nebula / IC 5070

Cygnus rose pretty late at the last new moon, so I was collecting this data over several early mornings (until good light stopped play :-D ) after having chased the Tadpole Nebula down to the horizon ...

This is a H-alpha / O-III / S-II narrowband image using the SIGMA fp (monochrome) with the SIGMA TC1411 1.4 x converter / SIGMA fp L (for the stars) / Celestron RASA 11" / 10 micron GM1000 Mount.

Total time 50 x 5 mins, ISO 1600, F3.1, 868mm

The narrowband results are distributed into R/G/B as HS/HSO/HO

It is never just a photograph ...

72 of my favourite nature photographs, each with a short reflection or text. Some very personal, some of a more general nature, they give an insight into my strong emotional connection with our natural world. The book is an opportunity to take time to reflect about what we see, indeed what I see and feel when I explore such simple motifs as a spring flower or a half-frozen stream - I would like to think that both the image and text together will perhaps give the reader an alternative perspective, another possibility to connect.
