Against all odds, Ernst Leitz II made the bold call to manufacture the first Leica camera anyway. With those famous words, he launched series production, saved hundreds of jobs in Wetzlar, and changed photography forever. 📸

The ICONIC AWARDS honor outstanding international achievements in architecture and interior design—and you can experience this award-winning concept for yourself across 600 sqm. studio klv brilliantly translated the iconic principle of the viewfinder into the space: striking metal frames in black, brass, and copper structure the areas, while a kinetic aperture in the panorama window gently responds to visitors and shifts the lighting atmosphere.

Four interactive zones bring the fascination of photography to life at our museum. Come on by and see the award-winning design for yourself! ✨

📸 Girl with a Leica (1934) – Behind the shadows lies a story of her own.

Her name was Evgenia Lemberg – a young photo-reporter and student of Alexander Rodchenko. In the summer of 1934, Rodchenko captured her in Moscow’s Park of Culture and Rest.

While the image became world-famous, behind the striking geometric shadows stands not simply a model, but a photographer in her own right. In her hands: a Leica. For Rodchenko, who had been using the system since 1928, the compact 35mm camera was the key to unprecedented freedom of perspective. Though the camera itself is barely visible in the framing, Rodchenko made it central by giving the masterpiece its name: Girl with a Leica.

An iconic moment between two photographers and a true milestone in modern photography.

The first mirror selfie in photography history? 📸✨

In 1931, Ilse Bing captured her iconic “Self-Portrait with Leica.” Reflected through mirrors, she became both artist and subject—with her Leica front and center as a symbol of her independence.

Her experimental work in Paris earned her the title “Queen of the Leica.” Almost a century later, it still looks effortlessly modern.

Ride, Snap, Repeat! 🚴‍♂️📸

What a fantastic Fotographic Social Ride! Together with .store, we brought cycling culture and passion for photography together right here at Leica Welt.

We hit the road for a scenic 50 km loop through the region—focusing not on top speeds, but on community, smooth group riding, and great conversations along the way. After rolling back into Leitz-Park, we wrapped up the day at Café Leitz with cold drinks, fresh perspectives, and hands-on time trying out different Leica cameras.

A huge THANK YOU to all riders for bringing such incredible energy on and off the bike! You made this first edition truly special. 🙌

To mark this 50-year milestone, our global gallery directors handpicked their absolute favorite shots for a unique retrospective: "Personal Perspectives."

Expect an extraordinary dialogue where legendary masterworks by Elliott Erwitt, Barbara Klemm, and Joel Meyerowitz meet fresh, contemporary positions like LOBA winners and bold modern storytellers.
