Documentary mit Kindern funktioniert irgendwie fast von allein.
Nicht, weil es einfach ist – sondern weil Kinder uns eine Welt zeigen, in die wir Erwachsenen oft schon lange nicht mehr eintauchen.
Sie leben aus ihrer Intuition heraus.
Sie planen nicht, denken nicht darüber nach, was als Nächstes kommt. Sie haben nichts im Hinterkopf. Sie sind einfach da. In diesem einen Moment. Und genau darin liegt für mich etwas unglaublich Schönes.Jede einzelne Erinnerung ist ein Geschenk.
Dieser Moment hier, als mein Sohn seine Zwillingsschwester getröstet hat, nachdem sie sich wehgetan hatte, ist nur ein winziger Ausschnitt aus all den Dingen, die jeden Tag passieren. Aber genau diese kleinen Momente möchte ich behalten.
Das Leben meiner Kinder festhalten zu dürfen – nicht nur die großen Meilensteine, sondern ihr echtes, kleines, wundervolles Leben dazwischen – ist für mich eines der schönsten Geschenke.
Genau das Documentary für mich:
genau hinzusehen, wenn das Leben einfach passiert.

Documentary with children somehow almost happens by itself.
Not because it’s easy, but because children show us a world many of us adults have long forgotten how to enter.
They live by intuition.They are simply there. Fully present in that one moment. And there is something incredibly beautiful about that.
You just have to look closely.
This holiday was full of moments like that. And yes, by the end, my hard drive is full. Just realizing the same thing: every single memory is a gift.
This moment here, when my son comforted his twin sister after she got hurt, is just one tiny fragment of everything that happens every day. But these are exactly the moments I want to keep.
Being able to document my children’s lives – not only the big milestones, but their real, little, wonderfully ordinary lives in between – is one of the greatest gifts to me.
And maybe that’s what documentary means to me:� looking closely when life simply happens.

❇️ Pfannkuchen essen in den Niederlanden ist bei uns inzwischen eine kleine Tradition geworden. Und ganz besonders dieses Pannenkoekenhuis: Hier waren wir vor vier Jahren zum ersten Mal, bei unserem allerersten Besuch in den Niederlanden. Seitdem gehört es für uns irgendwie dazu.
Es war wie immer lecker – nur unsere Familie hat sich seit dem letzten Besuch Kindertechnisch verdoppelt. 😂 Und so ist auch dieses Mal wieder eine neue Erinnerung entstanden: mit vier Kindern, viel Gewusel und dem Versuch, die Pfannkuchen so lange vor kleinen Händen zu schützen, bis das Foto im Kasten war. Ein kleines Spektakel für uns, die Kellner und vermutlich auch die anderen Gäste. ❤️
❇️ Pancake dinners in the Netherlands have become a little tradition in our family. And especially this Pannenkoekenhuis: four years ago, it was the very first one we visited on our very first trip to the Netherlands. Somehow, it has become part of our story ever since.
It was just as delicious as always — only our family has almost doubled in size since that first visit. 😂 And this time, we made another memory: four kids, lots of chaos, and both of us trying to keep little hands away from the pancakes just long enough to get the photo. A little spectacle for us, the staff, and probably the other guests too. ❤️

Die Zeit rennt so unbegreiflich schnell. Gefühlt hält man sie eben noch im Arm, im nächsten Moment laufen sie schon davon – und ehe man sich versieht, gehen sie ihre eigenen Wege.
​Genau deshalb sollte man das Leben und all die kleinen Augenblicke so oft wie möglich festhalten. Fotos sind kleine Zeitkapseln: Ein Anker, der einem die Wärme von früher zurückgibt, wenn die Jahre verflogen sind.

​Time moves effortlessly fast. It feels like you’re holding them in your arms one second, and the next, they’re running off – before you know it, they’re walking their own paths.
​That’s exactly why we should document life and all its little moments as often as possible. Photographs are small time capsules: anchors that bring back the warmth of the past when the years have flown by.

This photo was never meant to become a tradition.
The first heart was created when the Peanuts were just two weeks old. A year later, I couldn't resist recreating it. And for some unexplained reason, I felt inspired to do it one more time this year.
It definitely wasn't easy. They no longer sleep so deeply, they've grown so much, and the blankets are slowly becoming too small to shape the heart. That's exactly why this photo feels like the perfect ending to this little tradition. Most likely, it will be the last one.
Sometimes, three really is the perfect number. ❤️

Ich glaube, manche Orte suchen sich ihre Geschichten selbst aus.
Diesen alten Brunnen hab ich sofort ins Herz geschlossen. Er hat mich immer an die Schneewittchen-Szene mit der Wäsche und den Waldtieren erinnert.

Zwei Jahre nach dem ersten Bild durfte diese kleine Geschichte nun weitergehen. Und genau deshalb liebe ich dieses Foto so sehr. 🤍

I think some places choose their own stories.
When we moved here two years ago, I instantly fell in love with this old fountain. It always reminded me of the Snow White scene with the laundry and the woodland animals.
Two years after the first image, this little story was finally allowed to continue. And that's exactly why I love this photograph so much. 🤍
