If you don´t have a good plan for the weekend yet, here it is:

Saturday, june 11th 19h30 there will be the opening of the INTER KULTUR FOTO ART 2016: "SYRIA, FROM WAR TO EXIL".

1st exhibition starts on Saturday at Institut français Stuttgart with the photographers Laurence Geai, Jérémy Saint-Peyre and Muzaffar Salman.

2nd exhibition will be Sunday 10:30 at Marienplatz, Stuttgart with some of my work I did in Stuttgart. Followed by a huge program of very interesting lectures on related matters.

Almost one year passed since I started a personal photo project in Tanzania with a good friend of mine who is doing a very interesting field reasearch. Now first half of my second trip is not even over and I already had one of the most overwhelming and intense weeks, living in a Maasai village. Many things that I take for granted in Germany I experienced in a new way, such as having to take a shower without running water, a week disconnected from the rest of the world through phone and internet, which btw was due to not having a Tanzanian SIM card (all the Maasai people around me used cell phones), trying to sleep with bats, donkeys and other animals, doing their best to keep you awake all night. I had the pleasure to meet very nice people and to getting to know their culture and their livelihood practices as I could have never managed to do if went on a classic tourist safari where every contact with the locals seems rather staged and no authenticity possible. I also learned that living next to a National Park and a Game Reserve is not always fun if long-standing and sometimes violent conflicts over boundaries with both protected areas remain unsolved. Many small adventures happenned in 1 week: Being out one day with the boys to herd hundreds of cattle in a swamp, being invited to homesteads to have a milktea, or having to cross a river that cut off the only road back to town made this trip unforgetable, and there are still two more weeks to come. A little sneak peak of the first stop in a Massai village in Tanzania. I am so happy to have the opportunity working in the field with some amazing researchers, who try to get a better understanding of the very complex topic "wildlife conservation and it´s impact on local people".
