Z is for Zweibrücken 🇩🇪

The towering spires of Alexanderkirche rise above the city skyline. Originally built in the 15th century, the church is one of the oldest and most recognizable landmarks in Zweibrücken.

With this photo, the A–Z journey across Germany finally comes to an end — but the memories from living there and exploring the country will always stay with us.

Z is for Zweibrücken 🇩🇪

At the center of town stands Zweibrücken Castle (Herzogschloss) — a baroque palace that now serves as the seat of the regional court. Its wide cobblestone plaza and symmetrical façade make it one of the most striking buildings in the city.

This marks the final stop in my A–Z tour of Germany, a project inspired by the years I spent living and traveling across the country.

Z is for Zweibrücken 🇩🇪

This quiet corner of southwest Germany is home to the beautiful Rosengarten Zweibrücken, one of the largest rose gardens in Europe. Walking through the terraced gardens and reflecting pools here feels like stepping into a peaceful hidden park that most travelers never discover.

After working my way through the alphabet across Germany, it’s fitting to finish the series in a place that feels calm and timeless.

The bell tower of the Memorial Church of the Protestation (Gedächtniskirche der Protestation) in Speyer, Germany is the tallest bell tower in all of Rhineland-Palatinate, towering over the city and every other church tower soaring 100 meters into the sky!

The neo-Gothic church was constructed between 1893 and 1904 and commemorates when Protestant representatives signed a letter protesting against a ban of Martin Luther and his teachings in 1529.

The Old Gate (Altpoertel) is the one of the most architecturally significant of the remaining city gates in Speyer, Germany.

The old gate was constructed to mark the end of a "Via Triumphalis" that led from the cathedral to the city walls.

On occasion, the Emperor and his court would enter the city through the gate and proceed along the roadway to the cathedral.

Luxembourg sports 1,271 bridges and footbridges. But Pont Adolphe (Adolphe bridge) is one of the capital's most popular tourist attractions, despite being a bridge.

Pont Adolphe officially opened for traffic on July 24, 1903 after three years of construction.

At the time this 153 meter long bridge held the title of biggest stone arch bridge in the world! For like 2 years until the title went to a bridge in Germany.

Attacked once but never conquered, Eltz Castle sits along historically one of the most important trade routes in the German Empire.

The location and lack of war allowed Burg Eltz to remain much as it was in its earliest days, and continue to be home to a vast collection of authentic family heirlooms and artifacts.

Once inside the Burg Eltz castle walls, the main courtyard is a collection of design styles, reflecting the fact that three different branches of the family once resided in the structure together.

In 1268, the Eltz family split into three branches: the Kempenich, Rübenach, and Rodendorf lines.

Due to the cost of building fortified castles, the three branches shared the fortified base of Burg Eltz and built three separate castle wings on top.

The inner courtyard is enclosed by no fewer than eight residential towers!
