🚣‍♂️ MEISTRO ROWING CAMPAIGN: WHEN THE BEST SHOTS COME WITH A STORY (AND A HEADACHE)

The first final images from our Meistro rowing campaign are live – and yes, these are the ones where I took an oar to the head, earned a concussion, and still made my flight to Slovenia for STIHL the same night. (Priorities.)

This shoot was all about capturing the grit, teamwork, and raw power of competitive rowing. Drones, underwater housings, chase boats – we threw everything at it. And sometimes, the universe threw an oar back. (Lesson: Duck faster.)

Hey folks!

What started as a family album project just won Best Cinematography in New York, Tokyo and Hollywood...and was nominated in Cannes.

Sounds surreal? It kind of is.


The short version:
Last year, I hiked two hours into the Swiss Alps to visit my friend Kathrin – a shepherdess who's been working on different alpine pastures every summer for 13 years. She didn't want a camera at first, I had to convince her. It was supposed to be just 5 minutes. Just for the family album.


But then during the edit: The images, the silence, Kathrin's way of living – all too beautiful to cut down. So it became a 20-minute film.


And then one thing led to another:
→ Official Selection at film festivals across Germany
→ Nomination at Belgrade Film Festival (despite being in Bavarian dialect!)
→ Awards for Best Cinematography in Liverpool, Cannes, New York, LA, Hollywood
→ Sold-out premiere in Munich
→ A review from Belgrade Festival that blew me away (link below)

"I'm just here." (Ich bin einfach nur da. Und das ist gut so.") – a film about slowing down, the beauty of simplicity, and a world that stands in stark contrast to ours. 20 minutes of deceleration in the mountains.

No big agenda, no message. Just Kathrin, the animals, the silence.

Still can’t believe this. 🎬✨

After winning Best Cinematography – Short Documentary in New York, our little film “I’m just here.” („Ich bin einfach nur da. Und das ist gut so.“) has now also won in the Best Cinematography category at both the Hollywood Stage Script Film Competition 2025 and the Los Angeles Film and Documentary Awards –
and was even nominated at the Cannes Film Awards.

What started as a quiet, personal project – no script, no crew, no plan – just me, my camera, and Kathrin up on the Alp…
…is now being seen, recognized, and celebrated across the world.
Feels like this story of stillness, simplicity, and reconnecting with nature is striking something in people.

And I couldn’t be more grateful. 🫶

I’ve never been much of a car photographer – I’ve always preferred working with people. But this campaign for WashTec, global leader in car wash systems, definitely changed something.

Turns out: cars can be divas too – beautifully shaped, full of character, and surprisingly fun to shoot (especially under a neon waterfall 😅).

Big thanks to Bloom Project, creative lead Holger Wiesenfarth, of course my agency NEUBAUERSCHWARZ GmbH and my amazing crew. Two days in the car wash – fully worth the ride.

Okay, this is wild.

Sorry for posting about this film again – but as it's such a personal project, what’s happening with it now feels kind of surreal and really special to me. 🫶

A film in Bavarian dialect, with English subtitles, shot without a script, without a plan – just me, my camera, and Kathrin Riesch, up on the Alp. No crew, no directing, no budget. Just real life. Originally made just for the two of us – a kind of memory album.

And now?
Official selections in Belgrade, Liverpool, Berlin, and Cologne – and now this: Winner – Best Cinematography at the New York Film & Cinematography Awards 2025. 🎥

Kleine Herzensprojekte 🎬🤔

Die meiste Zeit arbeite ich an großen Werbekampagnen – mit namhaften Kunden, großen Teams und intensiver Planung. Das ist eine Welt, die ich liebe. Doch genauso liebe ich die kleinen, persönlichen Projekte, in denen ich einfach draufloslege, kreativ bin und alles selbst in die Hand nehme.

Wie bei diesem Film für den bayerischen Podcast Doch dort mit Lisa Steinbacher. Kein großes Team, kein Budget – nur wir zwei, ein kurzer intensiver Drehtag, meine Kamera, Drohne, Ton und Schnitt. Und genau das macht es so besonders.

🔥 Es war mir eine große Freude dieses Projekt zusammen mit Lisa Steinbacher zu produzieren!
