🏘️ Ummerstadt is one of the smallest towns in Germany and the smallest town in Thuringia. First mentioned in 837, it received town rights in 1394 and has preserved a remarkably charming historic centre filled with traditional half-timbered houses.

🏡 Because of its well-preserved appearance, Ummerstadt is sometimes called the “Thuringian Rothenburg.” The town's character was also shaped by pottery, which became an important local industry from the 18th century and earned Ummerstadt the nickname “Potters' Town.”

⛲ The town is also known as the “Town of Five Fountains.” Its traditional fountains are fed by natural springs and were once an important source of water for local residents, adding another distinctive feature to this small historic town.

👑 In the late 18th century, Maksymilian Mielżyński commissioned a grand new residence in Pawłowice, replacing the family's earlier manor. Built between around 1780 and 1793, the palace reflected the wealth and ambitions of one of the prominent noble families of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.

🏛️ Designed as a complete aristocratic residence, the palace features a central building with two elegant side wings connected by curved galleries. Its impressive scale and Classical design were meant not only to provide a comfortable home but also to demonstrate the family's wealth, education and social status.

🇵🇱 The palace was built during the final decades of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, just before the partitions of Poland in 1772–1795. It therefore preserves the atmosphere of a disappearing world—the wealthy Polish nobility and their grand country residences on the eve of the loss of the Commonwealth.

✨ Today, Pawłowice remains an excellent example of the ambitions and refined taste of Poland's late-18th-century aristocracy, combining impressive architecture with the history of one of the region's important noble families.

🏰 Burg Hornberg has stood above the Neckar River for almost 900 years, first mentioned in records around 1140. The castle grew into a remarkable complex of two castles, expanded over centuries as its role changed from medieval fortress to noble residence.

🍷 The castle is also deeply connected to wine. Vineyards have existed on its steep slopes for centuries, with wine production documented as early as 1184—and archaeological evidence suggests the Romans may have cultivated vines here even earlier.

🌿 After centuries of decline, when the castle was largely uninhabited from 1688 to 1932, it was brought back to life by Margarethe von Gemmingen-Hornberg, who restored the Lower Castle as her family's home. Today, the castle remains connected to the same family, combining nearly nine centuries of history with a living tradition.

🏘️ Matera is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. For thousands of years, people have carved homes, churches, and storage rooms directly into the soft limestone cliffs, creating the extraordinary districts known as the Sassi.

⏳ Yet Matera's story is not only ancient—it is also surprisingly recent. Families continued living in the caves well into the 20th century, often in extreme poverty and overcrowded conditions. In the 1950s, the Italian government relocated thousands of residents, and the Sassi were left largely abandoned.

✨ Decades later, the city was rediscovered and restored. In 1993, UNESCO declared the Sassi a World Heritage Site, transforming Matera from a symbol of poverty into one of Italy's most remarkable cultural destinations.

🏰 Branicki Palace is one of Poland’s finest Baroque residences, often called the “Versailles of Podlasie.” Built on the site of an older Renaissance residence, it was transformed from the late 17th century by architect Tylman van Gameren and later expanded by the powerful magnate Jan Klemens Branicki, who dreamed of creating a residence worthy of a European ruler.

🌿 The palace became much more than a private home—it helped transform Białystok into an important regional center. Its grand gardens, courtyards, fountains, and palace were designed as one magnificent Baroque composition, reflecting the wealth and ambition of the Branicki family and the grandeur of 18th-century Polish aristocratic life.
