--So we started at 0830, running from Les Rousses. The weather conditions were dry but the clouds were building & a storm looked ominous.
We made our way out of Les Rousses, via what would have been the moat of the Fort, this was really cool! We then quickly descended on trails for the first few kms. It was quite difficult to get into a good rhythm as there were a lot of runners around me & the trails were technical.
The first 20km had a lot of short and sharp ups and downs, just right for getting the legs warmed up for the next 55km. Katharina was following behind me in the car & I got to see her beautiful face at around 12km then again at 18! I reached Morbier, this was the first fueling station. I did not stop for long, just filling my water, grabbing some orange segments, tuc biscuits, chocolate and cheese. I stuffed as much food into my pie hole and running pack that I could stomach/ fit, then went on my merry way.
I was knocking back around 500 - 600 calories per hour & over 100grams of carbs. So doing well on keeping up my energy.
The kilometres ticked by as I made my way up and out of Morbier and onto the beautiful Cret that would lead on to Bellefontaine. On this section, I tried to eat a handful of nuts, so that I was getting a wee bit of protein in my system, but my taste buds did not agree & I quickly threw them back up! I'm glad I managed to keep everything else down though. I've been fueling a lot of my training runs with a product called 'Tailwind' Its a high calorie, carb and sodium drink which provides you with just about everything you need to keep your body going. If you can stomach it & not s**t yourself, then its awesome!
I arrived at Bellefontaine in good time & was again fast through the aid station, but maybe too fast as I did not screw the lid on tight enough to my water bottle & it sloshed out after just a kilometre! I thankfully had a spare bottle in my pack, with some grenadine in it. The climb up and out of Bellefontaine was brutal! Straight up a steep ski piste for maybe 300 metres. I passed one guy on the way up & he had just stopped dead and seemed to have hit 'The Wall'. I carried on. The weather had started to change, t
