Another beautifully structured lightning strike as seen from Lake Chiemsee captured in late August this year. The blue hour light was fantastic when the this bolt hit a distant mountain.

Long time no see. How is it going folks? ⚡️

Even though I was inactive during the last year, I still shot plenty of shareable images. I am very close to finalising my masters degree in climate sciences and finally have more time on my hands to share my photography again. It’s going to be interesting to see how many of you guys are still around and if the algorithm even still shows you my content ✌️

The image seen here was captured at Lake Chiemsee in Bavaria during the last week of August this year 🌩️

Hey guys,
Sorry about being so inactive. But as previously stated Instagram kind of sucks for photo guys like me these days. Oh and I lost 70k followers this morning 😅
Anyway I’ve been focusing more on , where we are also struggling with Instagram’s algorithm. Coming from like 50-60k likes on average per post during the last few years, we have dropped to just 7-12k within months. Quite the hassle and definitely doesn’t make you go crazy about posting on the personal account. and .nathan have brought on , a master of minimalism, and I think the site is heading into the right direction now.
On top of that I have also moved to southern Germany during the end of last year and started a Master’s degree in Climate- and Environmental Sciences.
Hope that explains why I have been so inactive. Priorities have just shifted a little.
In the image you can see an amazing thunderstorm over the Baltic Sea.

Hey guys,
Merry ‘belated’ Christmas to all of you🎄
Been a little bit inactive lately, which is mainly because I’ve been focusing on other things away from photography as long as travel is still difficult. But since around about 400 of you decided to part ways with my account during the last month, I decided it was time to show that I’m still alive 😅

Autumn colours are slowly fading.
This was an image captured in September in Slovenia. Absolutely gorgeous, soft light making it’s way through the mountain ranges. 🇸🇮

Yesterday was quite a day to remember. Models were hinting some nice storms during the evening hours and as soon as they formed I brought myself into position. I saw the birth of a small cell which quickly started to organise in a well sheared environment. What then happened was beyond my imagination. A severe supercell started to form and passed by me within kilometers, vigorously rotating. I continued to shoot and was aiming for lightning within the clouds. When I got home I saw that this cell formed a spectacular tornado over the water. I was like how the hell did I miss that? I was so focused on this crazy cloud shooting into the sky, that I didn’t notice what was happening below it. Also contrast was very bad with the top of the cloud shining very bright. People viewing this storm from the northern western side had no issue seeing the tornado.
When I opened Lightroom I increased brightness and I was able to “recover” the tornado. So even though I didn’t see it while chasing, I at least got an image of it. Definitely not my best image, not a great composition, but I’m still in awe by this storm, so I wanted to share anyway 🌪

An amazing lunar eclipse was just visible across the western United States, India, South East Asia and Australia. Did you see it?

In the carousel you can see my take on the last two total lunar eclipses that were visible in Germany. Both these are focal length blends, with the moon being shot at 70mm, while the foregrounds where shot at 14mm. The first image was taken in Summer 2018 and the second one in early 2019.

Late in the summer, when the Baltic Sea has reached its maximum sea surface temperature and the conditions are just right, you can get massive thunderstorms over the water! This evening felt like like a crazy show you’d usually expect in the Mediterranean or Adriatic Sea in autumn. Definitely a night to remember, storms went on for hours throwing huge clear air strikes from the top of the cloud! This doesn’t happened very often. In the last 10 years I have only been able to witness storms like this on three occasions.

A short 5 minute burst of Aurora is all we got that night, but I must say it was absolutely spectacular. 30 seconds after this shot we got a full corona and 2 minutes later everything was gone.
