Hello Social Media World!

I've lots to catch you up on. Last year my family and I moved from Hawaii to a small town in Western Germany near Kaiserslautern.

With COVID and our international move, I took a break from professional photography. I've been pretty busy in the meantime. Here are some highlights:

1. We got a new dog! He is a rescue from the Big Island named Boba Fett. He is some sort of Australian Shepard mix and is a 100% good boy.

2. My husband and I made a few quilts for our boys from their baby clothes and t-shirts. This was very challenging and rewarding. I would never make a blanket to sell. It is definitely a labor of love!

3. We made an amazing butterfly garden in our backyard. It was alive with bees, insects, and especially butterflies. We are already thinking about how we can make it even better for next summer.

4. As COVID numbers decreased across Europe in the spring we were able to travel! We visited Croatia, Paris, Strasbourg, Metz, Reims, and of course locally in Rhineland Pfalz.

5. If you know the Sanchez family, you know that we are heavily involved with the Scouting program. It has been incredible to watch our 3 boys grow into explorers and leaders through the program. This summer Xander and Roman both completed a 20-mile hike in order to complete the hiking merit badge. Our boys are now First Class, Tenderfoot, and a Webelos 2.

6. I won't lie, leaving Hawaii was difficult. We had made great friends and were able to truly appreciate our lives there with the state's rich history and natural beauty. Yet, it was our dream to return to Germany. We lived in Stuttgart from 2011-2015. Our boys were a bit too young to remember all of our adventures. This time we hope their European memories will last a lifetime.

7. I am terribly excited to step behind the camera again. I love being a photographer. It's very fulfilling to meet someone or a family, learn about their story, and then create art together. Sometimes I can hardly believe my first major at Louisiana Tech was accounting!

8. I've spent the last few weeks updating my portfolio and website. And I will be posting again on this page! If you are a friend in Kaiserslautern or Stuttgart, please share my information! Word of mouth advertising is truly the best way to reach people.

It was so fun to capture another family portrait session for one of my favorite clients. This family is both a riot and inspiring. I can't wait to see them again.

Head shots with an Aloha twist! In Hawaii the Aloha Tower is our Statue of Liberty. This lighthouse welcomed thousands of immigrants to the islands. I was incredibly excited to capture these portraits from a nearby garden rooftop. This island is more than beaches and mountains. Thanks for exploring with me.

Hello World!

Welcome to a long overdue Introduction Friday! I took a brief-ish break from social media, and here I am falling once more into the fray. My name is Elise Sanchez. I am a kick ass photographer and adventurer who lives with my fabulous family on the incredible island of Oahu. (Alliteration much?)

Our home was filled with visitors all summer, and my calendar was booked solid with sessions and weddings. ---And deep breath--- I realized I really haven’t done one of these intro things. So, let’s see.

I love my job! I get to meet the coolest people ever, and then capture a part of their life’s story. I love meeting people, and I’ve always been a Chatty Cathy, so it’s a win-win honestly. The camera stuff is just a bonus. My constant mantra while shooting is good light, solid composition, and real emotion. Nothing else matters really.

More about me? I’m from the bayous of south Louisiana. I’ve traveled a bit around the world. I love musicals, my current obsession being Les Misérables. I love a good book; my current reads are Mendeleyev’s Dream by Paul Strathern and Accessory to War by Neil DeGrasse Tyson (my hero). I also love movies: classic, campy, sci-fi, and musicals. (Wait a minute. She mentioned musicals again? Yup. She did.)

When I’m not working my photo magic, I stay busy. I’m a PTA/den leader/soccer mom trying to use my powers for good. Give it up for the wolves *howl.* My family and I love to hike, beach, and kayak. (I’m going to use “beach” as a verb here as I feel like it should be a thing.)

Red Beans and Ricely Yours,
Elise
