Reminder:

First of all you just need enough bravery for the next step. Not for the whole staircase at once.

Save this for the day you'll need to read that again 💛

If you're currently thinking about wether or not you should finally book that photo session - this is your sign to do it 🌿 And you know why?

I don't want to fear anyone into booking a session like "one day your horse will be gone" or similar (though I've lost two beloved family members in just a couple of weeks this year and, let me tell you I know how precious photos will be one day).

The true reason I love spring and early summer for photo session is about nature itself 🌿💚

Everything outside is so fresh and green and full of live, there are nearly no insects yet (huge plus), temperatures are perfect - all in all it simply feels like everything is awakening, especially after a winter like the last one 🥶

All of these photos were taken between March and May - except for one. Can you guess which photo was actually taken at the end of September? 🤭 Take your guess in the comments!

The most magnificent beings that left me in awe since I was three years old (and the reason why my parents had to stop at each and every pasture we came along, no matter what).

They brought me joy and dispair, made me question myself and let me grow, but the also were - maybe most important - the one place where I could always be my true self, without any judgement.

To capture them in my photos without any judgement, to truly see their souls, is the least I can do 🧡🌿

Which one is your favourite?

Some years after I started my photography journey, I felt stuck. My pictures where still fine, but they started to miss something compared to the beginning. Some spark, some essence, if you can relate. They where technically great, but they had lost their heart, had lost their emotions.
Photography was beginning to feel like a mere job to do, not like something I was deeply enjoying and burning for.

Then, a year ago, my partner gifted me a book about minimalistic drawing. I was fascinated, as in this book it said:

"There is no right or wrong in art."

And I simply didn't believe it, because for me, my "art" was always evaluated. Rated. Labeled (I won't start talking about art classes in school here, but I guess many of you might relate). Social Media wasn't helpful as well here.

So in the beginning, drawing was hard. It scared me as soon as a line was crooked or a circle was bigger than wanted, or...

I almost gave it up.

But somehow, drawing these patterns, lines, circles and crosses calmed my mind. It was an anchor when my mind was spinning and my thoughts wouldn't stop.

And slowly I realized that it didn't matter if a line wasn't straight or if a circle wasn't perfect. I started to enjoy the process and began to strive a little less for perfection, each time. And as the months passed, my photography changed as well. Slightly. Step by step.

It's easy to get lost in those many "rules" you find for photography. They tell you what to do and how to compose your pictures and which colours to combine, ... And it's very easy to think your photos aren't worthy if you don't follow them. But art isn't about rules to follow. Creativity isn't about rules to follow.

Because what truly matters is not if someone (not even yourself) labels your art as "right" or "wrong" based on any rules. It's about how you feel. If it inspires you. If it tells the story you want it to tell. And this is something no one but you can decide 💗

"Perhaps live is like a resting place
A shelter from the storm
It exists to give you comfort
It is there, to keep you warm
And in those times of trouble
When you are most alone
The memory of love
Will bring you home" (John Denver, Perhaps Love)

Each time I drive home from a photo session, there is that one specific song that belongs inseperably to the moments I just captured. I can never simply put on the radio or spotify, it feels like I need to put on THIS exact song. I wouldn't say, I remember them all (that habe been too many of them in more than five years), but some stay in my mind and heart just like all of the photos do 🤍

They said, it's the year of the fire horse, right? 🔥

Some pictures are nothing without the right perspective. I've included a behind the scenes video (swipe!) - would you have thought, that Wanda was that far away behind the fire?

Picture and video were taken at our FIRE & ICE portfolioday in January and looking back I still can't believe we managed to organize this in just a week! Though we were rewarded with the most magical light and weather possible ✨️

(And, please don't do this at home - Wanda was trained for years to work safely with fire around!!)

I did this some years ago and it was soo interesting to read, how different people perceive my art! 😍

This year marks my 5 year business anniversary and I'm really curious how your associations might have changed - or did they, at all?

Winter like a fairytale.

Light like a dream.

When the mist appeared that evening the world went silent. The only sound was the soft thunder of galopping hooves and the drizzle of glistering ice cyrstals.

As much as I wait for warmer temperatures, dry ground and the spring sun on my face - I would not have missed this winter and all teh beauty it held ❄️🤍

Posing is a tool. A helpful one. But just like you don't need scissors for every task, you don't need posing for every photo.

Used thoughtfully, posing can be a powerful opportunity to tell exactly that one specific story. It may help you to feel more secure in front of the camera (or sometimes behind it).

Still... all of these photos were done without any posing instructions. In some of them I didn't even have a choice on where or what exactly to shoot (try telling a wild horse how to position themselves for your photo and you'll know what I mean).

I still love them all ❤️‍🔥

Should I do another reel about photos where posing was the most helpful and important tool I had?

POV: You organize a portfolioday in less than a week, while it's freezing with minus 11 degrees outside and half of Germany is completely lost in snow chaos. And this is one of the results 💯

We went for it (though we thought we would have until at least mid-Feburary to finalize everything) - and we were rewarded with the most magical light one could wish for, with perfect conditions, perfect horses, a perfect small group and a day full of laughter, creativity and endless moments to capture.

We played with fire, wandered through winter wonderland, watched our models dancing and jumping through the snow, ...

It took me some days to decide, which photo I want to show you first. This one won the game, because it symbolizes everything this day stands for to me:

Fire
Ice
Creativity
Courage
And, more than anything else, trust in it's purest form ❤️‍🔥

What do you say - are you excited to see more?

Nothing more to say, than that these photos are a dream come true ❄️✨️ Have a very happy weekend in the snow 🤍

I thought, why not try and have some more flames down there... 🤓

Thanks for nothing, AI 🐦
