Info Pioneers of Hip Hop Award:
In 2024, the “Pioneers of Hip Hop Award” celebrated its premiere at the event of the same name, setting a new milestone in the history of hip hop culture. For the first time, a prize will be awarded in Germany that honors both national and international hip hop artists and recognizes their outstanding achievements.
After over 40 years of the European and more than 50 years of the American hip hop movement, this award is a first. Unlike many awards, the “Pioneers of Hip Hop Award” is intentionally independent of the academic world and the music industry. This award comes from the hip hop scene and is aimed directly at them.
The criteria for the award are not based on high chart positions or commercial success, but on the importance of the pioneering and building work done for the hip hop movement, which continues to have an impact today.
This year, the forefather of the French hip hop scene, “DJ Dee Nasty”, the Swiss breakin legend “Crazy-One”, and the German B-Boy pioneer Kai Eikermann were honored.
The initiator of the award is Rick Ski, who also founded the “Pioneers of Hip Hop” event series. The project is supported by Frederik Hahn, alias Torch, who, as curator from the Free Hip Hop Institute Heidelberg, makes an important contribution to the organization of the award. The “Zulu Nation Germany”, represented by “Zulu King Israel”, is also part of the jury.
The Pioneers of Hip Hop Award is more than an award - it is a tribute to the roots and future of hip hop culture and recognizes the artists who have shaped and continue to inspire generations with their work.
