Dark and sinister this storm looms on the horizon, while it‘s outflow winds scream ahead and almost blow us off the top of the hill we were watching it on. This is actually the last frame of a timelapse I took of this whole thing, one I really had to fight for, putting all my weight on the tripod for the entirety of the half hour (or so) in order to keep it somewhat stable. That was honestly crazy, especially with how far ahead the wind was already gusting. There must have been a few gusts around 100kph, even standing got really difficult by times.

Yesterday we spent the afternoon in the south of Germany, chasing a beautiful LP Supercell and intercepted another strong storm at the Austrian shores of Lake Constance (Bodensee). This one was a true beast, flickering like a broken lightbulb while sucking in that beautiful humidity the huge lake was providing. Pretty awesome if you ask me! Later I‘ll post a video of the crazy lightning so stay tuned ⚡️

Yesterday I ended up spending the entire night chasing storms with and and ultimately we arrived back home at 8 this morning. While the storms mostly stayed pretty unphotogenic for us, this forming supercell in Luxembourg looked pretty awesome, despite not really wanting to show any lightning outside of the endless intracloud flickering. Quite an experience, especially for Alex as it was his first time storm chasing - during a night setup and with troll storms keeping us up until sunrise. I‘m sure he won‘t make that mistake again anytime soon 😂😂

BANG - There it was, the first lightning strike pf this developing storm after flashing along for already half an hour or so. And it surely hit the target, striking right into the sea of lights, compiling in Stuttgart Airport, a couple kilometers West. I‘m sure that must have been pretty loud for a second there! Also note the forming updraft plate on the left, wich rapidly grew into a round disk full of eddies. I‘m glad that lightning is finally back here in central Europe! 🥰

I‘m a fan of storms in combination with stars, so this beautiful backside of a freshly formed storm was quite a sight to behold. Lightning was very sporadic, but almost exclusively resulted in powerful ground strikes, turning the night into glaring brightness for half a second every minute or so. We said we weren‘t going to Bavaria today, no matter what happens, now guess where this was taken 🫣

Yesterday I spontaneously went out with as a couple of storms were forecasted to form above the Black Forest at night, so we chose one of his favorite places to go to, just in case something miraculously found it‘s way there. Three hour laters we arrived, another three hours later the storm did as well. For once we got lucky enough to actually get a few beautiful lightning bolts (already a rare sight in the last couple of years) paired with an insane viewpoint, and after more than a decade of chasing severe weather I also finally got a nice 3D looking lightning strike, hitting the valleys below our feet. Oh - and of course the RFD of this supercell-looking storm completely showered us as the viewpoint was about 500m away from the car. That was random but totally amazing!
