A splash of color, a porcelain parrot and a century-old garden story in one frame. 🦜✨

This playful bird sits in the middle of the Munich-Nymphenburg Botanical Garden, one of Europe’s most important plant collections with over 14,000–19,000 cultivated species spread across about 21 hectares. The garden in Nymphenburg opened in 1914 as the “new” botanical garden, replacing the cramped original site near Stachus in the city center, which is now known as the Old Botanical Garden.
What many visitors don’t know: this garden is not only a pretty backdrop, but also a major scientific hub where Munich universities study plant ecology, genetics and even wild bees that find food and shelter among the beds you see behind the statue. And the parrot itself? It is part of a series of decorative figures made by the historic Nymphenburg Porcelain Manufactory, a local craft tradition dating back to the 18th century that still produces fine porcelain just a short walk from here.

Whenever I walk through these geometric flower beds and catch this porcelain guardian watching over a basket of fruits, it feels like stepping into a living postcard – a blend of art, science and quiet drama under the Bavarian sky.

White peony with deep red center

This was the first peony that really stopped me in the garden – white petals, but a heart that looks like it was painted in deep red. It felt a bit like meeting someone who seems calm at first glance, but you just know there’s a lot more going on underneath the surface. I liked that contrast: quiet outside, intense inside. Maybe that’s why I took way too many frames of this one before I could move on.

Sometimes the smallest moments become the biggest memories.

Today Odin, my Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, decided that walkies could wait because there was a tiny lemon butterfly to watch instead.

He stretched out in the spring grass, nose twitching, completely mesmerized by this fluttering piece of sunshine.

For a few quiet minutes, the world shrank to just the two of us, a field of wildflowers, and one brave little butterfly dancing in the breeze.

If happiness had a picture, I think it would look a lot like this. 🦋💛

On May 1st, 2026, the traditional maypole was raised in Piding (83451), a Bavarian village in the Rupertiwinkel region near the Austrian border.

In Bavaria, the maypole has long been a symbol of spring, community spirit, and local craftsmanship. In many villages, it’s still put up by hand on May 1st — with teamwork, long wooden poles, and a whole lot of heart.

In Piding, this vibrant tradition is kept alive by the local heritage association, GTEV “D’Staufenecker” Piding, which is dedicated to preserving regional dances, music, and traditional costumes.

With their green vests, dirndls, brass band music, and the active involvement of both young and old, they bring Bavarian culture to life right in the middle of the village.

Piding itself has a long and eventful history, with roots going back to early Bavarian settlement and strong historical ties to nearby Salzburg.

Today, it’s a welcoming community nestled between the mountains and the Salzach valley, where tradition and everyday life blend seamlessly.

It was truly a pleasure and an honor to document this year’s maypole celebration — from the careful decorating of the tree, to the procession through the village, all the way to the moving moment when the maypole finally stood tall over the village square.

If you enjoy authentic stories, real people, and atmospheric event photography from Bavaria, I’d love for you to follow my work here and on Instagram.

A heartfelt thank you to the first chairman of GTEV D’Staufenecker Piding, Walter Pfannerstill, for kindly allowing me to share these images – and to all the wonderfully charismatic members of the club for letting me capture these special moments.

🐾 He doesn't ask how your day was. He already knows.

I almost walked past without looking down. But then I saw him — quietly resting beneath the chair, pressed gently against the feet of his person, watching the world go by with those deep, ancient eyes.

No words. No performance. Just presence.

In a time when loneliness has become one of the great unspoken epidemics of our age — when we stare at screens more than faces — animals remind us what unconditional really means. They don't care about your job title, your failures, or what you posted yesterday. They just stay. Close. Steady. Yours.
This dog wasn't doing anything extraordinary. He was simply being there. And somehow, that was everything.
I've photographed crowded streets and empty places, faces full of joy and faces full of sorrow. But few things stop me like the quiet loyalty of an animal beside its human. It's one of the purest things left in this world.

🎸Some people carry their pain in silence. He carries it in music.

I was walking through the city when I heard it — a melody drifting through the cold air, cutting through the noise of everyday life. There he was. No stage. No spotlight. Just a man, a guitar, and something deeply, unmistakably human.

In a world that moves faster than ever, that often feels more disconnected than ever — music remains the one language that needs no translation. It doesn't matter where you're from, what you believe, or what burdens you carry. When those strings resonate, something inside us resonates too.

He wasn't performing for applause. He was playing because he had to. Because some things can only be said through sound.

And for a few minutes, strangers slowed down. Some stopped. One woman closed her eyes. A child tugged her father's sleeve and pointed, smiling.

That is the quiet power of music. It doesn't ask for anything. It just gives.

In these times of noise, division, and endless scrolling — maybe what we all need is to stop, listen, and remember what it feels like to be moved.

📍 Somewhere in the city. Everywhere in the heart.

The Skeleton of the World

I used to think winter was a pause button—a season of waiting. But looking through the lens today, I realized it’s actually a strip-down.
When you take away the vibrant greens and the distracting blues, nature stops performing. It just is.

The Pulse: Look at the water. In black and white, it’s no longer just a stream; it’s a living mercury, carving its way through cold stone with a persistence that doesn't need sunlight to be felt.

The Architect: These fungi (swipe to see) aren't just growing; they are building a cathedral on a dead stump. Even in the deep freeze, there is a slow-motion hustle that we usually walk right past.

The Weight: And then, the mountains. Shrouded in a mist so thick you can almost taste the damp air. They aren't "pretty"—they are formidable.

This isn't a postcard version of winter. This is the raw architecture of the earth, showing us its bones before it puts its colorful clothes back on.

The Spirit of the Mountains 🏔️🌄

In the Pinzgauer Alps, they say that winter isn’t just a season—it’s a feeling. And no one embodies this feeling better than Balthasar, a powerful Noriker stallion whose coat carries the rich hue of dark chestnut honey.

While the world falls silent under a thick blanket of snow and the villages in the valley drift into a deep slumber, an ancient wildness awakens within him. To Balthasar, the deep powder isn’t an obstacle; it’s a stage. In this exact moment, Balthasar decided to defy gravity. With a mighty leap, he reared up, his mane whipping in the icy wind as if he wanted to look the winter sun directly in the eye.

It wasn’t a sign of aggression, but a pure expression of the joy of life. In this heartbeat, he wasn’t the workhorse destined to pull logs through the forest; he was the rightful king of the peaks.

🩶 The silver woods are waking now,
As shadows retreat from the frozen bough.
Through tangled trees, the sunbeams play,
To guide us on our winter way.
A world of white, a breath of gold,
A story new, yet ages old. ✨
