I have been in the reining community for just over 10 years now and got my first job in this industry because I was good with young horses. It was this strength that landed me a good position as an assistant trainer to learn reining.
When I started my Reining journey, I wanted to be the next showman in the lights because that’s what success looked like from the outside. The 2 yo c**t starter was not yet as respected or couldn’t make a living just training excellent prospects for the sport.
But I couldn’t deny that I loved breaking out horses and helping them reach their individual highest potential. I didn’t grow up showing horses but I did spend lots of time breaking them out. It became my strength. Also, the longer I worked in the industry for other trainers, I saw that the industry needed more skilled horseman in the 2 yr old years.
When I started my own business in 2019, I decided to commit fully to making the best prospects I could. Watching these prospects cross the million dollar mark is a big milestone that wouldn’t be possible without every great showman who picked up the reins after me. Thanks to so many trainers, customers, and horses who have been a part of the journey.

DON’T EAT THE FRUIT!

It is hard to do but such a simple and important concept with training a young horse. We have all been at the point where our horse is finally figuring out what we are asking and they begin to perform the way we want them to.

THIS IS THE FRUIT of your work as a team, horse and rider.

You’ve arrived at a small or large win. The hardest part now is to STOP. We’re all human and we have a tendency in moments like this to want MORE. Slap your own hand and leave the fruit of your work alone.
Now, either finish your training session or go do something else with the horse.

There are typically three big consequences of NOT stopping:

1. He will search for another answer to give you because you didn’t stop while he was giving you the right answer the first time.

2. Repetition without change creates aggravation (you will make him resent his job)

3. You will kill his try to work with you and search for answers.
