Kata Tjuta, Northern Territory, AUSTRALIA

The Kata Tjuta are located 30km to the west of Ayers Rock (Uluru) with whom they share the same geologic origin. Despite having far less of a name recognition than the famous monolith, the Kata Tjuta are actually larger in size with the highest of the 36 rocks surpassing the summit of Uluru by 200m.

View from Petrinska Rozhledna, Prague, CZECH REPUBLIC

My favourite viewpoint in Prague is from the top of Petrinska Rozhledna, which offers its visitors an unparalleled view across both Stare Mesto (old town) and Mala Strana.
The panorama below was stitched together from 5 separate photos.

Anapji @ Night, Gyeongju, SOUTH KOREA

As capital of the ancient Silla kingdom (57 BC – 935 AD) Gyeongju is South Korea’s most important historic tourist destination and has hundreds of ancient ruins and archaeological sites spread throughout the city. One of them is the Anapji palace complex which was constructed in the final days of the kingdom.

Iguazu Falls, ARGENTINA/BRAZIL

Consisting of 275 falls dropping more than 80 meters and spread across a length of 3 kilometers, the Iguazu Falls are world-famous for a reason. While the Argentinian side has a lot more paths along the falls and lets you get closer to them (with the Devil’s Throat being arguably the most famous viewpoint where you are surrounded by falls on 3 sides), the Brazilian side offers a more panoramic view of the entire falls.

Dubai Marina, Dubai, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES

Under construction since 2003 around one of the world’s largest man-made marinas, Dubai Marina is now home to more than 100,000 inhabitants who live in the 200 highrise buildings scattered around the marina. Particularly the north-eastern part of it - which can be seen in the photo - includes no less than 7 skyscrapers that are higher than 300m with another 2 that are under construction. Such a density of supertall buildings is currently unmatched by any other place on the planet.

Cascada Paine, Parque Nacional Torres del Paine, CHILE

Located in a remote part of southern Patagonia, Torres del Paine NP offers its visitors huge glaciers, impressive mountain ranges, dozens of waterfalls and an abundant wildlife. It is also the world’s second-southernmost national park that can still be accessed by car (the nearest town of any size is Puerto Natales 150km to the south via gravel road – so get a 4WD if you want to explore the area).

Graslei, Ghent, BELGIUM

As one of Europe’s largest and most prosperous cities during the late Middle Ages, Ghent has a stunning collection of historic buildings in its really well-preserved city centre. The Graslei is right in the middle of it all and also one of Ghent’s most popular meeting places with its countless cafes and restaurants.

Rice farmers, Ninh Binh, VIETNAM

The area around Ninh Binh belongs to my favourite spots in Vietnam. With its picturesque limestone mountains, its ruins of ancient capitals and its slow-paced and traditional rural life it makes for a great destination that is best explored by bicycle.

Mayakovskaya Metro Station, Moscow, RUSSIA

While London’s tube might be the granddaddy of subway systems, Moscow’s metro is arguably the beauty queen. As of 2015 it is the world’s 6th longest subway system (329km) as well as its 4th busiest (~2.5 billion annual passengers) and particularly the stations built during Stalin’s reign are stunning pieces of architecture and art.
One of my favourite stations is Mayakovskaya on the Zamoskvoretskaya Line. While it lacks the amount of details of stations like Komsomolskaya, Prospekt Mira or Elektrozavodskaya its art deco stainless steel columns and futurism mosaics make it a truly beautiful station.

Qibao, Shanghai, CHINA

When most people think of Shanghai, they probably think of a modern metropolis filled with thousands of highrise buildings, 10-lane highways and gigantic malls – which for the most part happens to be true.
But there is also a different side of Shanghai – one that consists of old Shikumen neighbourhoods (which are unfortunately increasingly subject to the wrecking ball) as well as old water townships on the outskirts.
Qibao happens to be one of the best-known examples of the later kind. While it can be quite touristy, it is definitely still worth a visit.

Dunmore Head, Di**le Peninsula, IRELAND

Dunmore Head is not only the westernmost point of the Irish mainland at 10°48‘W, but also the westernmost point of any major landmass within the European Union.
Located on the windswept and mountainous Di**le Peninsula, the entire area is also one of the few remaining Gaeltachts (Irish-speaking areas) in Ireland.

Gorge du Dadès, MOROCCO

The Gorge du Dadès lies between the High Atlas and Anti-Atlas mountain ranges and can only be accessed over a narrow mountain pass with plenty of hairpin bends. Lining the valley are dozens of crumbling kasbahs (historic fortresses) that tower over small and scenic Berber villages.
