Ventured from San Diego's sunshine to Iceland's misty mystery – swapped surfboards for waterfalls and SPF for rain gear. No humans in sight, just us and the falls having an existential chat. Asked the waterfall for life advice, but it just kept flowing... guess we'll stick to chasing waterfalls instead of wisdom! 🏔️✨

"We approached Athens from the north in early twilight, climbing a hill. When we reached its peak, we were dazzled to look down and see the Acropolis struck by one beam of the setting sun, as if posing for a picture." – Donald Hall

The Acropolis is truly something else and the setting sun's warm light adds to the magnificence of this grandiose citadel. Our favorite part of our stay in Athens was being able to point out to the Acropolis wherever we went – through nooks and trees and buildings and ruins. ✨

Turn off to turn on 🌟

Despite the light on the trees from the park’s visitor center (to the right) and this being a single shot without any stacking for noise reduction or tracking, we were still able to enjoy a magnificent night sky without any apparent effects of light pollution, thanks to responsible and glare-free lighting at Capitol Reef National Park . Learn more about the impact of light pollution and dark sky friendly lighting at International Dark-Sky Association and how we can work together to protect the night skies.

When Forest and Cosmic Fires Met.

Crimson flames rose towards the evening sky and we watched helicopters, one after another, dump water onto the fire all day with seemingly no avail. We returned to the same spot after dark only to be taken aback by the frame. We were there for a long time, watching with an equal measure of awe and terror, the wonderful landscape nature was actively painting right in front of us. As our eyes adjusted to the dark, we started seeing more and more stars – it was almost as if the ashes from the wildfire were all turning into stars and taking a seat in the cosmic theater.

The Creation of Adam

We came across this fascinating scene during a chilly nighttime hike at Bryce Canyon National Park. It instantly reminded us of Michelangelo’s exceptional illustration from the Genesis fresco on the Sistine Chapel ceiling. Much like the painting, this scene seemed like the tree on the right is passing on the spark of life to Adam (the tree on the left), while being surrounded by angels in the form of billions of distant stars... just passing on the stardust. It was one of those moments when we felt truly one with the Universe! 🌌

The hoodoos in Bryce Canyon are a photographer's paradise, especially during the magic hour when the sunlight illuminates these ornate features. The synergy of light and shadows allows for plenty of interesting compositions. Hiking through these glowing orange hoodoos and spires made us feel like we were navigating Martian structures. If you haven’t been here yet, Bryce yourself — it’s beautiful. 🌄

From calling it the "River of Milk" to understanding what it is made of, our quest towards exploring the contents of our Galaxy, the Milky Way, has spanned centuries...

And yet, we know so little. We've figured out our position in the spire, that it has about 200 billion stars, innumerable planets, unquantifiable amounts of gas, dust, and space (read nothingness).

This is all trillions of dollars, hundreds of space missions, and thousands of genius scientists later. There's a really good chance we'll never know what it's made of. Needless to say we'll never be able to actually see our Galaxy as a whole beyond hypotheses.

Just to put things in perspective! 🔍🌌
