Lightseeker Photographs

Lightseeker Photographs Landscape photographer based in Frankfurt/Germany. My name is Lukas, I am 29 years old and I live in Frankfurt.

I have a Master's degree in Northern Studies and that is kind of where a lot of my photos come from. I began taking photos randomly back in 2012 when I moved to study. It was a lot of trial and error at the beginning but I had fun and kept on doing it. During my studies I had quite a few possibilities to take landscape photographs in Scandinavia, mostly in Sweden. That is where I grew to love disc

overing the beauties of nature and to appreciate what nature gives us. At that time I could probably only take some great photos because of the luck to be there in the right moment. But since I had a lot of fun learning new things and trying different motives and compositions for my photos, they kept getting better and better. However I consider it harder to get a decent photo in Germany than in Scandinavia but of course I won't stop trying to get the perfect photograph. Light is essential for every single photograph and I love to capture it clearly on my camera sensor. Be it impressive atmospheres, great sunrises and sunsets or breathtaking northern lights – that’s what I seek and that’s what Lightseeker Photographs stands for.

The midnight sun, blooming lupines, decent weather: I’ve talked about this many times, but I can’t say it enough. June is the perfect time to take a vacation in Iceland. You won’t regret it!

Follow me for more on Iceland: the Northern Lights, bad weather, volcanoes, simply everything that goes with it 🥰

I just can't help but be drawn to lonely houses in the countryside. They tell a beautiful story. Especially in Iceland, which is so sparsely populated, that sense of solitude really comes through. Whether by the sea, in the mountains, still inhabited, or long abandoned, they all tell a story.

It's just a hedge. Blackberries, to be exact. They grow like weeds. Still, it made for a nice photo against the soft evening sun. ☀️

I don’t post old photos very often. I’d say I developed my style around 2021. Before that, let’s just say there was room for improvement 😅 Maybe I’ll post something about that soon.

Anyway, I recently (re)discovered this photo from 2017 while putting together my post on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula in West Iceland. Aside from my strange habit at the time of seemingly only taking long exposures, I really like this photo of Lóndrangar because the light and composition are just right.

The last time I was there in 2022, the light was pretty harsh (Slides 2 and 3). The photo taken from a viewpoint similar to the one in 2017 didn’t turn out to be anything special, and finding an edit I’d actually want to post wasn’t easy at all. The photo with my wife in the foreground, on the other hand, I quite like. I suppose this is yet another example of how the obvious angle isn’t always the right one.

These drone shots have unexpectedly turned into my last from lake Mývatn.

When I explored Lake Mývatn and the surroundings for about a week, I realized there is actually only one specific spot you find on Google Maps that you are "supposed" to shoot: Skútustaðagígar (that's Slide 4). The rest are beaches and lookout points, but what is there to shoot?

Luckily, I've discovered that there is actually SO MUCH to shoot!

The landscape is vast and unpredictable and driving along the lake shore is amazing. But the moment you look from above, everything is different and you'll discover this surreal crater landscape right in the lake.

I was lucky enough to capture these views from the air. But things changed: with Iceland’s updated drone regulations in May 2026, capturing these massive structures from this perspective is no longer possible. This is probably a good thing and it forces us photographers to think out of the box. I'm sure I could have captured more great shots of the lake with my camera if I hadn't been so focused on the drone. Something for the next visit 😊

(Of course these won't be my last shots of this magnificent lake, are you crazy? 😇)
