Head buried in the grass, but still watching everything around him.
A brand-new lead stallion, learning that responsibility rarely comes with peace.

This is the picture representing May of my current WILD 2026 calendar.

This picture represents April of my WILD 2026 calendar. At first glance, this moment almost looks playful, four horses kicking or rearing, frozen in a chaotic moment. But there is nothing light about what is happening here.
On the left is a young mare who had given birth less than an hour before this picture was taken. Her foal is brand new to the world, fragile, unsteady, still learning to stand. This should be a time of quiet bonding, of first breaths and first steps.
Instead, there is chaos. One of the three stallions to her right is her own, fighting to protect her, while the others are drawn in. In the wild, mares enter “foal heat” shortly after giving birth, and that instinct pulls stallions in, even at the worst possible moment.
What you are seeing is not just power. It is tension, instinct, survival. A mother defending her space. A stallion defending her. A newborn’s first hour unfolding in chaos instead of calm.
The wild doesn’t wait for the right moment. Sometimes, it is breathtaking and brutal at the same time.

I feel incredibly blessed to have witnessed this unforgettable moment alongside amazing people and . While .lubetzki missed this particular scene, he was out there creating unforgettable memories of his own

I love catching moments like this. A lead stallion, so often defined only by power and protection, choosing gentleness with one of his own. A quiet nudge, no force, just presence. Stallions lead in very different ways, each with a personality all their own, and witnessing that softness in the wild never stops feeling like a gift.

I often receive messages asking where I photograph wild horses. I am always grateful for the interest and the love people have for these incredible animals - but I never share their exact locations. This choice is not about secrecy. It is about protection.

Even well-meaning visitors can unintentionally cause harm. Human presence can stress wild horses, alter their movement patterns, and push them away from vital food or water sources. Off-road vehicles, drones, and overcrowding can damage fragile habitats and disrupt natural behaviors.

I have seen visitors - often with the best intentions - try to hand-feed wild horses, and once even witnessed a parent lifting their child onto a horse’s back for a photo. These moments might seem harmless, but they can be deeply dangerous for both the people and the horses. Wild animals are unpredictable, and every time their space is invaded, they lose a bit more of their natural fear of humans - something that keeps them safe.

For these reasons, ethical wildlife photographers and conservationists follow a rule. Protecting wild animals always comes before publicity, and the most powerful images are those that raise awareness without putting their subjects at risk.

The best way to honor them is to admire from a distance and let them live freely, on their own terms.

My work is about more than photography – it is about respect and coexistence. Every image I share is a glimpse into their world, one I hope will inspire others to care deeply about keeping that world intact.

Thank you for understanding and supporting responsible wildlife photography. Together, we can help ensure these wild horses remain what they have always been - symbols of strength, freedom, and the untamed spirit of nature 🐴 🍃

Keep them wild. Keep them safe.

In horses, expression is closely linked to environment, social structure, and autonomy.

Free-living horses have space for regulation.
Space for pause.
Space for clear communication within the herd.

Spending time with them you begin to notice the openness of the eye, the way the body organizes itself when movement is a choice rather than a response.

These images are an invitation to slow down and refine our perception.
To notice what ease looks like.
What autonomy looks like.
What a nervous system at liberty quietly communicates.

I had wished for this, quietly, without daring to truly hope for it - and then it happened.

Fresh white silence, beautiful winter light, and a kind of luck you can’t plan for. I was alone out there, my footprints the only ones in untouched snow, until I found them - moving as if winter itself lived in their bodies.

The cold that makes us shiver is simply home to them. Thick coats, steady breath, ancient strength - perfectly equipped for these winter days, exactly as nature intended.

Some moments feel like a gift you didn’t ask for out loud. Quiet, overwhelming, and deeply humbling.

Happy New Year 🤍

A new chapter begins, and once again I step into it with gratitude — for the open landscapes, the quiet moments, and the wild horses who continue to teach me what it truly means to be free.

Watching them move through their world, unconfined and guided by nature, is a reminder that freedom is not a luxury, but a need. Just as we long to live authentically, to breathe deeply and choose our own paths, horses too deserve lives that honor who they are - close to nature, with space to roam, connect, and simply exist.

May this new year invite us all to reflect on the kind of freedom we wish for ourselves, and the responsibility we carry toward the animals who share this planet with us. May we protect what is wild, respect what is natural, and never forget the quiet power of living in harmony.

Wishing you a year filled with openness, kindness, and untamed beauty ✨
