Abstract:
As a photographer born and raised in Iran, Samaneh Khosravi deals with foreign issues and the self-perception of women living in Iran. In her studies, she has had the opportunity to research several aspects of this topic and document them from different perspectives using photography. During her bachelor's studies at the Department of Design at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts, she already investigated, among other things, the development of female fashion under the prevailing restrictions and religious guidelines in Iran. This artistic research resulted in a book project titled "Among Women - Schönheitsideale in Iran," published in 2015 by Kerber Verlag. Following on from this, she looked at the social perception of women within the current socio-political framework in her master's thesis "Banoo." Herefore, she accompanied various Iranian women in their daily work, whether at home as a housewife or as a co-pilot of a passenger plane in the air. Samaneh Khosravi complemented this practical work with an academic paper, "Representations of Women by Contemporary Iranian Photographers," with a particular focus on the perspectives of three photographers of different generations, placing the photographs in their socio-historical context, from which one could chronologically discern advances and regressions in women's rights.
In her lecture, she provides insight into her current photographic projects and academic work, thereby tracing the common thread that is now the basis of her future research project.
