Hello, I‘m a hobby macro photographer specialized in slime moulds.

Because slime moulds are extremely tiny (less than a few millimeters), I use a technique called focus stacking.

Hello friends, here’s one of my highlights of 2023: Diachea leucopodia. I found these tiny rainbow colored fruiting bodies on a tiny log (most probably beech) inside of a rotten tree stump at the end of September. 🌈 The size of these sporocarps is around 0.3 - 1.5 mm. This species really likes the warm summer months and can be found more often in tropical regions compared to my area. However, according to literature it can be quite common in certain areas. 🏳️‍🌈

Hallo Freunde, hier ist eines meiner Highlights des Jahres 2023: Diachea leucopodia. Diese winzigen regenbogenfarbenen Fruchtkörper habe ich Ende September auf einem kleinen Baumstamm (vermutlich Buche) in einem morschen Baumstumpf gefunden. Die Größe dieser Sporocarpien beträgt etwa 0,3 - 1,5 mm. Diese Art mag die warmen Sommermonate sehr und ist in tropischen Regionen häufiger anzutreffen als in meiner Gegend. Der Literatur zufolge kann sie jedoch in bestimmten Gebieten recht häufig sein. 🏳️‍🌈

Hello friends, in my last post I explained to you the close socialization between Lepidoderma tigrinum and Lamproderma columbinum - so I thought I want to show you this beautiful species. What really fascinates me is their metallic iridescence on their peridium - a feature which is often seen for Lamproderma species ✨. This species develops in canyons and valleys where usually a high humidity exists and can be found on moss that grows on old trees or rocks. 🌳🪨 However, finding it in lowlands is rather uncommon.

Hallo Freunde, in meinem letzten Beitrag habe ich euch die enge Vergesellschaftung zwischen Lepidoderma tigrinum und Lamproderma columbinum erklärt - da dachte ich mir, ich zeige euch mal diese schöne Art. Was mich wirklich fasziniert, ist ihr metallisches Schillern auf der Peridie - ein Merkmal, das bei Lamproderma-Arten häufig zu sehen ist ✨. Diese Art entwickelt sich in Schluchten und Tälern, wo normalerweise eine hohe Luftfeuchtigkeit herrscht und ist auf Moos zu finden, das auf alten Bäumen oder Felsen wächst. 🌳🪨 Im Flachland ist sie jedoch eher selten anzutreffen.

Hello friends, I was lucky and found one of my most favorite slime mold species again: Lepidoderma tigrinum! Interestingly, I found this species now every year again in the same area. However, they seem to travel a few meters each year and are found always on a similar substrate (moss / decomposing wood). It‘s also one species that shows a strong and constant socialization with Lamproderma columbinum - I find both species every year really close to each other; sometimes even growing together.

Hallo Freunde, ich hatte Glück und habe eine meiner liebsten Schleimpilzarten wiedergefunden: Lepidoderma tigrinum! Interessanterweise finde ich diese Art nun jedes Jahr wieder in der gleichen Gegend. Allerdings scheinen sie jedes Jahr ein paar Meter zu wandern und sind immer auf einem ähnlichen Substrat (Moos / zersetzendes Holz) zu finden. Es ist auch eine Art, die eine starke und konstante Vergesellschaftung mit Lamproderma columbinum zeigt - ich finde beide Arten jedes Jahr sehr nahe beieinander; manchmal wachsen sie sogar zusammen.

Hello friends, I wish you all a happy new year! This week I launched my first website (check out the link in my bio)! 🛜 Here’s a stack of an immature Physarum sp. which I found together with .my during the in Vienna 🇦🇹 on a culm (according to .loupe it is most probably P. leucaphaeum).

Hello friends, here’s another stack which I took during the workshop at the in Vienna.
Most probably it is the relatively rare species Physarum Oblatum which .my found on a small piece of bark.
Both of us checked the species in much detail (spores / capillithium etc.) - P. Oblatum seems at least for me to be the best fitting ID.
This image was stacked at a magnification of 5:1 and still had to be properly cropped for aesthetics.
Personally I‘m a really big fan of all the colorful Physarum species and as a result this species was no exception which makes it a real highlight of my stay in Vienna 🇦🇹.

Hello friends, what a phenomenal week! I’ve been invited to the taking place in Vienna. One of my favorite shots was displayed during their exhibition and I gave a presentation about extreme outdoor macro photography of slime molds! During these days we even went two times to a local forest of Vienna to give a little workshop.
One of my highlights was also to finally meet .my - an extremely talented macro photographer from Malaysia 🇲🇾. Together we found over 13 species in a small pit which was less than a 50 m radius! She found this tiny immature Stemonitis species on an old leaf.
This image was stacked with 157 single images. For the lighting I used besides of my two LED panel setup another torchlight in the background to illuminate the background.

Hello friends, here’s a stack of a filigree species called Cribraria cancellata. As soon as the spores are depleted, the fruiting body always reminds me of a chandelier 💭.
Since I’ve moved for my PhD, I have a lot of new forests to explore - so stay tuned for new slime mold content! 🎉.

This image was stacked outdoor at a magnification of 5:1 using a manual macro rail.

Hey Freunde, hier ist ein Stack einer sehr filigranen Art welche Cribraria cancellata genannt wird. Sobald die Sporen entfernt sind, erinnert mich der Fruchtkörper immer an einen Kronleuchter 💭.

Da ich für meinen PhD umgezogen bin, habe ich viele neue Wälder zu erkunden - also seid gespannt for neuen Schleimpilz-Content! 🎉.

Dieses Bild wurde vor Ort im Wald bei einer Vergrößerung von 5:1, mittels einem manuellen Makroschlitten gestackt.

Recently, I found these nice Cribraria cancellata next to some Ascomycetes in a little swamp of my forest on a decaying tree.
Unlike most Cribraria species, C. cancellata can be relatively easy be determined.

Letztens habe ich diese schönen Cribraria cancellata neben ein paar Ascomyceten in einem kleinen Sumpf im Wald auf einem verrotteten Baum gefunden.
Im Vergleich zu den anderen Cribraria Arten kann C. cancellata relativ einfach bestimmt werden.
